Free Comic Book Day

This morning we started the day going some place new:  the local comic book store.  There's one over by 400 now, which I had no idea.  I don't know how long it's been there, but the other day Mommy noticed it on our way back from Cumming.  This prompted us to look up when Free Comic Book Day was, and lo, it was actually today!  So we made plans to go this morning - the store opened at 11:00 in the morning, and we got there roughly 11:15 or so, not to appear too anxious or anything.  There was a lot of other people there at the place, but it all worked out for us.  There was a big table in the middle of the store, and since Madison was with us, we could get as many of the free comics that we wanted.  I think we wound up with about ten or eleven or so, plus the Iron Man mask you see Madison wearing in the picture above.  Madison got about seven or so, and Daddy got three with a steampunk theme.  We're noticing a bit more of that in comics this year - although it's always been prevalent in the comic book stores, there were a few more titles combining classic stories like "Red Riding Hood" with a steampunk genre.

Anyway, all was well.  Madison had a good time looking around in her first comic book store, and we didn't spend a dime.  It was, after all, Free Comic Book Day.  There were a few other comics there, but the crowd was such that we didn't spend too much time browsing.  Maybe someday soon I'll go back by there, but we do have enough reading at the house, with all the comics downstairs in the basement.  Plus the ten we got today.

It was a work day at the office, and you can see below that Madison was really wanting to help out!

She was wanting to be so helpful today, which was really sweet.  Despite the tremendous weight of certain things, she just dove right in and tried to help carry or push or pull or whatever.  These are the drinks we're getting for Summer Xtreme, which are stored deep in the church.  We decided to use that pallet jack there, the very one that a little later on in the afternoon would squash Daddy's finger!  It still smarts a bit, but with enough ibuprofen (I think four at last count), the pain has subsided!

Anyway, we'll post some pictures of the new set that went up today.  Goodbye Storm Chasers, and hello Tribes again.  It's a temple set, one with some references to Indiana Jones that are subtle enough to miss, unless you're a serious fan like Daddy.  We may snap some photos tomorrow to sort of reveal the Easter eggs.

It's late tonight, after midnight actually.  Mommy is still getting together things for tomorrow's service - the costumes in fact.  Madison went to bed really, really late tonight.  But she had so much fun playing with all the guests and visitors that dropped by throughout the day - staff and volunteers alike.  Daddy will try to memorize a script at the last minute, and we'll try to have a lot of fun tomorrow.  It's Star Wars Day, so our skit will have a bit of a Star Wars slant to it.  It should be fun!
