Ununseptium

This weekend, the big news for Periodic Table of Elements fans was this:  they've been able to keep an atom with 117 protons together.  This was discovered a few years ago, but some folks in Germany have been able to reproduce the creation of this new element.  So there it is, a new spot on the Periodic Chart of Elements.  Just one more to memorize, with the temporary name of ununseptium.  Hopefully, they'll come up with a better name than that.  As it is one of the heaviest metals ever, I suggest a name like Metallica.  As is, the current name ununseptium starts off with a double negative, which is just not cool.

Madison was back to school today, and a little slow getting up this morning.  Actually, we all were.  Daddy wound up going right back to sleep as soon as he brought her to school.  That's the sort of weekend we had!

But it was a good day at school for Madison.  Tomorrow promises a little surprise, as Ms. Halston is going to visit her for lunch.  Madison knows she's coming, but doesn't know when it will be.  Lots going on this week - tomorrow, we'll visit the DMV for Mommy, who has a birthday this week.  Also, Saturday, we're all going up to grandmother's house (over the river and through the woods).  We're going to have our Mother's Day celebration up there together, so that should be nice.

Today when Madison got home, it was snack time first.  But then it was some serious piano practice.  One song in particular got a lot of attention:  "Moon Dreamer."  It's a challenge for Madison and Daddy, so much so that there was a nice reward for getting all her piano practice done this week:  a video game!  About six months ago, there was a buy-one-get-one-free deal on used games, and Daddy picked up a copy of "Madagascar 3" for Madison, knowing how much she liked the characters and even the previous game.  We did play a tiny bit of that game before bed, but there was a good chunk of time spent doing something else first:  celebrating Cinco de Mayo.

Mommy made tacos for the occasion, even though it wasn't Tuesday.  We explained a little bit, but didn't need to explain too much:  it's basically a day to celebrate all things Mexico.  Or, at least what Mexico is when you go to EPCOT - that seems to be a bit friendlier than reality at the moment.  After devouring too many tacos, we sat down for a movie that doesn't take place in Mexico:  "Saludos Amigos."  It does take place in South America - despite the fact that it isn't even on the same continent, there is a lot of that Hispanic flavor in the movie.  It's officially one of the animated movie releases in Disney's list, and amazingly, Daddy hasn't seen it yet.  It was a quick view, so we sat down together to watch Goofy the gaucho, Donald Duck and José Carioca.  This was a peek into another time, with plenty of live action shots showing Disney and his team of animators heading south of the border to a few countries in South America.  Mary Blair was there, along with others, so it was neat to watch from a historical perspective.  But the cartoons within the movie held Madison's attention as well.

We did go to bed early tonight, as advertised.  Mommy and Daddy have been binge-watching "Monk" episodes - we just passed the 100th episode tonight.  Before that, we put Madison in bed a little early to try and catch up on sleep.  Before her bedtime, we said our prayers for so many that are in a bad position - starting with the girls in Nigeria and the recent circus accident as well.  We don't go into details with Madison, or at least we sort of censor it a bit so that she has a good night's sleep.  But these and other needs in the world are real, and it is important to keep praying for others.

After that, we finally finished our Superman and Spider-man comic book, with some of the smallest font size I've seen.  Seriously, the font was about this big for that book, which made it really hard to read in a darker room at night.

Madison enjoyed it all the same.  And she enjoyed her Cinco de Mayo as well.  So did Mommy and Daddy, who spent a lot of time rearranging the basement today - moving shelves and Christmas things, and getting the remnants of the yard sale back together.  Speaking of which, there are still potato chips from the yard sale left - small bags unopened... I think it's time for a late night snack!

Goodnight!
