Tea for Mother's Day

Our church is ready for Mother's Day, with some new decorations on the walls and in the lobby - it's a neat look, one you can see Madison enjoying.  It reminds you a bit of an Eloise book, perhaps the one where she goes to Paris.  Here's a bit of the graphics that go with the weekend, things to go on screens and print.

Our skit at KidPak has nothing to do with that.  We went the direction of beat poets, which is kind of funny actually.  We'll all be dressed in black, sort of blurting things out here and there: "turn your eyes inside and dig the vacuum - tomorrow is drag city, man!"

Okay, nothing exactly like that.  But it should be fun, and goofy.  That's my speciality.

Today everyone gathered at KidPak to celebrate the Great Convergence of Birthdays.  Mommy, Chris, and Lance have birthdays (in that order), and additionally Matthew's mommy is leaving employment to go off on missionary work - it was quite a bit of ground to cover for a celebration.  When Madison got home from school, we did just that though - and had a party with gluten-free cupcakes and more.

Madison brought in some gifts for her teacher this morning at school, as it was the last day of Teacher Appreciation Week.  We got some flowers, and Madison made a card as well.  It was a good day for Madison, who was a cashier this morning with some exercises about producing and purchasing.  School has been very good for Madison this year, and we've been thrilled to see how far she's come with her education.

Tonight we watched "Enchanted" again, and realizing that Idina Menzel has done the voice work for technically two Disney princesses now.  The obvious one is Elsa, who of course was a princess before she became queen.  The other animated princess she plays is in this charming movie, "Enchanted," which has great music to it.  Again, I'll always associate "That's How You Know" with this one time we were swimming at the Wilderness Lodge pool - that song was playing, and Madison was just learning how to swim from Mommy to Daddy and back again.  We still have to learn, of course, but she was having such a good time in the pool.  The song takes me back.

We were filming a weather report today at the north campus, using the official Free Chapel studio, I suppose.  It is complete with a set of stairs that don't go anywhere.  Just in case you see those on television and wonder where they go off to.  They're real stairs, they just don't have a destination.  Anyway, we were using the green screen over there for a bit, pretending to be weather people - sort of.

For example, one thing in the forecast, approaching Forsyth County, was Godzilla.  This may have an adverse effect on the folks that live there.  It was that kind of forecast.  Of course, there's a new Godzilla movie coming out soon - so that's kind of in the air lately.  It seems like a darker Godzilla movie than most, whereas the last American effort was a lot different.  We're big Godzilla fans here, but we're taking a wait-and-see approach.

ANYWAY, there's plenty of other movies this summer to watch - although not as much to watch with Madison.  There are only two animated movies, for example.  Both are going to make A LOT of money at the theaters based on the fact that there isn't anything else playing for kids.  We'll take Madison to see "Maleficent," but that just might be it for the summer for family viewing.  There are other movies, but we might need a sitter for Madison.

Tonight, and lately, Madison has been sweet at bedtime.  We say our prayers, and we read a bit too - but sometimes she just wants to cuddle with Mommy.  This has been nice for Mommy, the perfect thing leading up to Mother's Day in fact.  Tomorrow, we'll celebrate Mother's Day in White County for a bit... until then, goodnight and sleep tight!
