Twelve years now, as we inch further away from memory. At KidPak tonight, it was interesting bringing up the significance of a day that nearly every kid there wasn't even alive when it happened. We had a rather informal sort of night, where volunteers told stories about where they were that day, and the lessons we all learned: what is truly important in life? Why do we have to fight all the time?
The answers to these questions get fuzzier as the years go by. It's been about twelve years since we've had that "where were you when" sort of moment. Daddy has had a few in his lifetime, from the Oklahoma City bombing to Columbine to both space shuttle disasters. Daddy wasn't alive when JFK was, but that was one of the worst.
Today was a big, long work day for Daddy, so he missed out on seeing much of Madison. After school, she and Mommy went to their second day of tennis practice, which involved some moving around, attempting to hit the ball. Madison's teacher is good at spotting when she is holding the tennis racket wrong - and helping her correct that, and her posture. Suddenly, Madison is improving. But she's improving in every way, and rapidly. She's reading better and better. Her math skills are better and better. She can play piano better - and is learning her ballet skills too. Our little girl is growing up fast!
Speaking of moving along "fast," our calendar is filling up fast. We've just gotten some of our Disney Cruise packets in the mail - that's just about a month away. This weekend, we've got penciled in something for Saturday and Sunday: the Dragon Boat Festival here, and a trip to Pickens County to pick apples. Thursday is Talk Like a Pirate Day, and another adventure to Krispy Kreme, and tomorrow is the KP Movie Bash. We're watching the movie "Cars," so Daddy actually watched that movie this morning. I forgot how good it was. Tomorrow night we'll probably watch Mater's short videos, "Car Toons," which we may show a few of as filler.
Tonight Daddy got home a little late. He peeks in on Madison as she sleeps in her new bed - her room looks very nice now. And comfortable too! That bed will keep her happy for a while. It looks so comfy that Daddy offers her to trade! She always says NO!
It was close to bedtime, but old habits die hard: we're on episode #45 of "Monk," nearly halfway through the entire series in less than a month!
