Beethoven in the Afternoon

So today when Madison got home, we leaned heavily on the St. Patrick's Day theme.  Our project was a leprechaun trap, one that Daddy did a little advance work on.  It's going to be a ShamRock Climbing Wall, and clearly, with school and other activities, it'll take a few days to complete it.  Today's task was painting the large shoebox green.  Daddy had bought some light green paint, and Mommy put a covering on the table so that Madison could get her inner artist in gear.  It took two coats of green paint, but soon the box was shimmering green.

To add to the festivities, we had "Darby O'Gill and the Little People" playing on the television, which Madison hasn't seen before.  She enjoyed the bits with the little people, of course, and wasn't at all frightened by the banshee.  Apparently, to drive one away properly, all you need is a shovel.   This movie is a must-see if you're looking for a St. Patrick's Day themed movie.  Immediately following this, we all watched Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers, as they met a lonely leprechaun.  Having recently set up Youtube on our X-box, we could watch the episode in its entirety on our television, which was kind of cool.  While that was playing, Daddy used hot glue to put the shamrocks on the side of the shoebox - these are the things the leprechaun will have to cling to as he climbs to the top, where the treasure is.  And yes, there is a treasure glued to the top of the thing as well.  Daddy found a pot of gold today that will do just the trick to attract this leprechaun.  And Mommy found the perfect net to hang on the inside too.

Tomorrow, Madison will color a rainbow and put it at the top, along with some clouds too.  She insisted on the clouds.  Mommy and Daddy will make a few signs for the sides, and I think we'll have ourselves a proper leprechaun trap!  Don't worry - we'll show pictures when it is complete.  Hopefully we'll be able to show some pictures of the leprechaun as well!

The other parts of the day:  Madison playing piano.  She played "Ode to Joy" about a squillion times - that and "Spinning Around."  Daddy was playing with her on both of these tunes - she's quick to announce it:  "A duet!"  Yes, we play Beethoven together in the afternoon.  How pleasant and sophisticated we are!

Tonight was cold and rainy again, although the temperature is overall warming up.  Still, it was dreary and cool outside, and Daddy had some firewood to burn.  Therefore, we set up a fire in the fireplace, which made for something just as entertaining as any movie.  There's something therapeutic about a fire in the fireplace - warm too!  It's still burning even now, so I think for now I'll bid you a good night.  I'm off to the fireplace to enjoy the warm glow.
