Castaway Cove

Today we began our series Castaway Cove, and Daddy was actually really impressed with how it turned out.  All the actors did so well - you can see them in the photo above, each dressed up as as a castaway in a series that honors Gilligan's Island.  Daddy is the Professor character at top right, and from there you can pretty much figure out which castaway is which.

When writing this series for research, we watched the first two seasons of Gilligan's Island, and then several castaway movies on top of that.  You'd be amazed at how many are out there:

1.  Cast Away
2.  Swiss Family Robinson
3.  Robinson Crusoe
4.  Mysterious Island
5.  Shipwrecked
6.  Alvin and the Chipmunks:  Chipwrecked
7.  Gilligan's Island
8.  Lt. Robin Crusoe, U.S.N.
9.  Nim's Island
10.  The Last Flight of Noah's Ark
11.  Madagascar

Those are just a few.  It's always fun getting into our theme a bit - even Madison caught an episode of "The Backyardigans" where the characters find themselves as castaways on what they think is a deserted island.

No sleep this weekend - pretty much literally.  Last night was an all-nighter, and that's where we are for Sunday night as well.  Daddy went home at 3:45 to go to sleep (until 9:15 pm), and then got a shower and returned to work, where I'm staying until tomorrow evening.  Hopefully, I can get home then!

Madison was at church this morning, and spent most of her day with Mommy afterwards.  I definitely miss her, but this is that time of year where things go into overdrive for a few weeks.  Just seven days from now, we'll be back to normalcy, and hopefully a bit more sleep!

Here's just one small blurb from Daddy's writings this month, following the theme of castaways:

The story of Robinson Crusoe everyone knows is a story of a castaway, stuck on an island for years upon years.  But perhaps even more than the story of a castaway within, is a story of a man running from God.  What happens when you run from God?  You wreck - big time.
Robinson Crusoe never spent any time praying until the fateful night of the storm, when he prayed in desperation that he would survive the shipwreck.  He did, and as you know, found himself stuck on a deserted island.
Later, he prayed again when he became deathly ill.  He didn’t know what else to do.  He also picked up a Bible he rescued from the sinking ship.  Right there he opened it up and “by chance” discovered this passage in Psalm 50:15:  “"Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will glorify me."
Robinson Crusoe was saved indeed.  Rescued from the island?  Sure.  But through the passage of this wonderful novel, what really rescued his wrecked life was the Word of God.
