Snow's on the Way

This morning I drove over to Braselton to go get Maddie from her sleepover, who was still having fun talking and creating some crafts with the dwindling party guests that spent the night there.  Maddie was one of the last to leave, and that was okay.  She had a great time!

We went straight home from there, and that's where we'll stay for a while.  The storm is coming, and we've got everything we need.  Not that we need too much, of course.  There's only a likelihood that we'll stay in place on Sunday, and maybe Monday if things get more serious.  But the temperatures are supposed to go up pretty quickly, so this isn't a repeat of some traumatic snow event from the 90's.  We should be fine.  Nevertheless, a regional panic sort of sets in when these storms come in, and the running joke is about racing to the grocery store to get milk and bread.  This need was probably created by dairy farmers and bakeries, maybe?

Anyway, we saw the cancellations start popping up on our social media feeds, including one for our church.  We knew about it ahead of time, but administration just had to wait until there was absolutely certainty.  And there is.  Even if it isn't snow, there'll be precipitation and freezing temperatures tomorrow morning.

We had the fire roaring in the fireplace a good part of the day, and we had a bit of a new movie marathon, first watching "The Eternals" for the first time.  It was meh.  Each of us agreed this was the least favorite movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  I could go on as to why, but it seems that many critics agree.  Meh.

Afterwards, we had a good meal together - Mom had made for us some corn chowder soup, which is a staple each January with the fast.  It is so good!  Her soups in January are especially delicious!  Maddie had a pizza, but the rest of us enjoyed a hot soup as the temperatures started to drop a bit outside.  There was rain approaching, and that is supposed to turn to ice overnight.  We'll see when we get up what happens.  It's supposed to be more severe northeast of us, but we're grateful if we get even just a little.

Maddie and I played a game of LIFE together, the standard version not based on any movies or characters.  You know, the "normal" game of LIFE?  I got pummeled.  I had a great life, but it was pretty clear who was going to win when Maddie kept landing on the same exact reward spots over and over again.  It's still a fun game though!  Maddie wanted to finish the "Tour of LIFE games," where we played LIFE, but first the Star Wars version, then the Pirates version, and today the actual game of LIFE, with pets added for fun.  I'm not sure if you can find the original version anywhere, but we used to have one of those.  I remember playing that as a kid all the time, and that finish line seemed so long aways.  College seemed such an odd concept, and adding pegs for kids was something I was not that interested in at all.  I just wanted to race my little car over the mountains in the game.  That was then, this is now.  I still want to go over the mountains, desperately, but I'm happy to have a little pink peg in the car with us, and that finish line seems so much closer now than before.  Hopefully we can land on plenty more good spaces until then, and hopefully I can start getting some of those bills with Milton Bradley's face printed on them.

We needed another movie after that, and we went to the other new release, "Hotel Transylvania 4," which we had been anticipating, and was much better than the other movie today.  It wasn't our favorite of the series, and in fact might have been our least favorite.  But it wasn't a bad movie at all - the other three movies are some of our favorites, especially around October or so.  This one we'll watch again in October, probably part of some marathon with the characters.  The animation is just so much fun, and there are some great and hilarious moments throughout.  It was fun.

The wind is howling tonight, and it's somewhat menacing out there.  The idea that there are trees that could be covered in frozen precipitation, and then these very strong winds are here to blow them to and fro... that's the fear tonight as many are probably going to lose power.  We have candles and firewood ready, although we rarely lose power here in this neighborhood.

We said our prayers tonight, and we read the last few pages of this latest Kingdom Keepers book.  And then it was off to bed.  We'll be sleeping in tomorrow, although we'll probably be up early to peek out the window looking for accumulations of snow.
