Day of Marvel

It's been a while since we've seen a movie on opening day, but today Daddy came home early from work with one goal:  to see "Avengers Infinity War."

This is the ten-year mark for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is somewhat interesting timing with Madison's arrival, which was also a decade ago.  But it's supposedly wrapping up a lot of story lines with this two-part series of movies.

The theater was full for an afternoon show.  In a few days, we'd read how this was the biggest opening for a movie ever.  And, based on the ending of this one movie, I imagine that the next one will have an even bigger opening.  This one ended with quite a few question marks, along with several exclamation points on top of that.  There will be intense discussions and theories on fan sites for the next year, with folks super-analyzing any future trailers that come out, wondering about this or that.

The three of us enjoyed the movie, and we won't go into spoiler territory here.  But it was just like any comic book movie crossover, with a ton of characters and stories overlapping.  Some characters never meet, and then others that you wouldn't think would ever meet do just that.  It was a lot of fun.  Madison really enjoyed it - Spider-Man is her favorite character at the moment, although Mantis was fun too.  Daddy loves Drax in these movies.  That's just the thing:  everyone has a moment to shine, just like in the 2012 Avengers movie, but on a much larger scale.  Even War Machine has some great moments, which had Daddy smiling.  It was fun.

It was just neat to go to an opening movie day, and sort of feed off all the energy there in the theater.  The row behind us gasped really loud as we did at one surprise appearance, and groaned in collective agony at some bits at the end.  We know things will work out for our heroes, because we know there's a part two.  Madison and the kids in the theater in front of us were complaining that they'd have to wait a whole year to find out what happened to their beloved characters.

And we older folks were thinking, "We had to wait THREE YEARS to find out what happened to Han Solo!"

Anyway, it was a nice trip to the theater.  And a long one - it was a longer movie, especially when you add all the previews, and the fact that we got there pretty early to get a good seat.  But it was a fun time, and we were on our way home quickly after that, just in time for more Marvel, with "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," which disappointingly had really very little to do with the Infinity War.  Still, it was a good episode.  We certainly had a lot of Marvel going on today.

But there were other things going on, of course.  Daddy finished writing the last script for our Legends series, our last appearance for Madison in the Descendants universe.  We were working on Summer Xtreme, of course, with printed material and slides for volunteer and parent meetings.  We were working on hand-outs and helping with filming.  In fact, we'll be seeing a supervillain tomorrow as we film some more for Summer Xtreme.  Not many days to go - time is going by!  We've got lots of school activities on the calendar coming up, lots of recitals, lots of things at church too.  April is winding down, and summer is upon us.  It used to be Memorial Day was the unofficial moment that the summer season began, but now it seems that the first blockbuster movie is.  And that used to be somewhere in May, but here we are, April 27, and the summer season has begun.  We're getting ready for it!
