Chilly April

Pollen.  It's affected some of us more this year than usual.  I don't know if it is an age thing for Daddy, but Madison has to take medication too, so it's a big deal.  Daddy used to not have to take anything, but this year has been rough.  Our car is covered with yellow pollen, and salt.  The salt is from the three days solid at the beach, and a good reason to head to the car wash right away.

Today, Daddy was at work, while everyone was unpacking.  We all slept in, of course.  The weather is chilly out there - and according to the weather people, it's supposed to stay chilly for a while.  This is April.  Spring.

Nana and Ye-Ye were out in Nebraska this past week, and they were caught up in this really big snowstorm.  It's cold out there, and in the midwest and northeast, there's still snow coming down.  It's highly unusual weather.  The temperature in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan got to negative twenty-four degrees.  Madison, Wisconsin, has experienced it's coldest start to April in recorded history.  The stories go on and on, but the point is simple:  it's a cold April!

So we were indoors a lot today.  Daddy was working on tomorrow's service with music, imagery and props.  And a bit of writing.  And graphics and printing.  It was a full day.

Madison was working on her piano, catching up on that, and also doing a bit of her spring break homework.  She was also busy helping Mommy clean up the house a bit.  This involved unpacking, doing laundry, putting movies and music back where it came from, and that sort of thing.

Daddy got home in time so we could watch a movie together.  A few days ago, we got some glass bottles of Coke, and we had them yesterday for the ride home.  But... we didn't have a bottle opener!  So anyway, tonight we popped open a few glass bottles of Coke.  It was Madison's first Coke bottle, and we had that ready along with some popcorn, watching "Kit Kittredge:  An American Girl."  This is a really good movie, if you haven't seen it.  For one, there's a bit of learning from this movie, learning about the Great Depression and about hobos as well.  The hobo codes were shown in this movie, and beyond the good actors and fun story, there was a feeling of education about this period piece.  Madison said she really liked it.

We're working on our hobo names now.  Two Shoes, Boxcar Momma, and Little Fry Pan Maddie.

Ahem.  Anyway, afterwards, it was time for bed.  There was some debate about what to wear tomorrow, but cooler heads prevailed, literally.  You see, it's technically spring and although you want to dress like that, it's still going to be cold tomorrow.  Mommy wins that argument.  It wasn't a severe knock-down sort of argument, but Madison was disappointed that the weather was what it was.  We're all feeling that way, Madison:  everyone's ready for warmer weather.

It's just that we're going to have to wait a little bit longer though...
