Figure Eight


Tonight, Daddy finally plugged in some old memories.  We watched "School House Rock," or at least a good portion of it before bedtime.  These are those short educational cartoons that used to play on Saturday mornings, each one talking about numbers, or multiplication, or conjunctions, or even how our government works.  To this day, Daddy knows the preamble of the Constitution - but only if he can sing it.  Come on... sing it with me!

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

Surprisingly, Madison enjoyed the cartoons as well.  Which is what makes them so effective:  they're really educational, and you can imagine how easy it is to learn your multiplication tables when you're following around a rabbit named Lucky Seven Samson.

And even years later, I still feel sorry for that mouse that gets smacked around like a cue ball.

Anyway, we didn't have time for a full movie before bed, so Daddy plugged some of these in tonight, and we were off and running, going through numbers, and even making a stop at Conjunction Junction (what's your function?).

The rest of the day was nice, though amazingly hot.  School is going well - it's Madison's first Monday of third grade, right?  She does have homework, although it is more limited this first week.  That homework is online, an assignment with guided questions that follow a video.  There is assessment testing coming up.  That's the "before" testing, which shows how much of third grade Madison already knows.  I'm guessing she knows a bit more math-wise, although not because of Schoolhouse Rock.  She was ahead there last year, and really enjoys math - go figure!

Mommy and Daddy were doing a few things on a 'to-do' list today, but the interesting news may be our destination for Thanksgiving.  We usually don't do that, but this year we just might go on a trip elsewhere.  Maybe... We'll see as the week unfolds, but the thought is a return to Satellite Beach.  If we do that, Daddy is insisting on taking all the Thanksgiving decorations with us!
