Accident

Today was a pretty memorable day.  I am not sure if Madison will forget it.  There she is, above, at our Winter Wonderland party at a place called "Get Air."  This is a very large place filled with trampolines and fun for the kids.  There is a tightrope to try and cross, and also a fidget ladder, one of those rope ladders that twists around easily if you don't keep your balance.  Madison was able to make it to the top of that ladder, a most impressive feat!  Nobody else that I saw could actually do it, so this was pretty cool.  But for most of the night, Madison was jumping around, sliding around, or doing a big dive into a huge pit of foam blocks.  It was two hours of exhausting fun for all the kids, who didn't slow down at all.  Madison stopped one time to share some Dipping Dots with Daddy.  But that was about it!

She needed the time to go and do something fun.  Because today was pretty scary.  Here's the email update I sent to folks earlier:

Zena went through a building today with her car.

She pulled into a parking spot at a speech therapist's place we go to down in Alpharetta.  She took her foot off the gas, but the car was wanting to suddenly zoom forward instead.  So it lurched forward, jumped the curb and drove straight into the building.  Through the brick wall.  And into a vacant office - the car was literally inside an office.  Madison and Zena were in the car, and both are okay - just shaken up.  Bricks came down and got the windshield.

It's all pretty surreal, but I guess every accident has that sort of aspect to it.  The power is off in this building and things will be closed there until Monday afternoon, after an engineer determines if the integrity of the building is still okay.

Thoughts:

1.  Of all the places for the accelerator to kick in on its own.  So thankful it wasn't at an intersection.  Or at music camp, where children walk across the parking lot.  Or at church.  Or at our house!
2.  Zena and Madison are completely unharmed.  Amazing, considering there is a massive gaping hole in the building.  Zena is sore, but you could probably imagine that happening.  And psychologically, she's stunned.  She's never been responsible for an accident in her life.  Stupid stuck accelerator.
3.  We had fifteen firemen there in three fire trucks.  One saw Madison crying, and gave her an up-close tour of the fire truck.
4.  Madison was upset on a few occasions.  But mainly because she was wondering how we were going to get home.
5.  What a miracle that this office was empty.  It was occupied as of December.  This outer wall with bricks on it... was pretty flimsy.
6.  Obviously, we're extremely thankful at this moment.  Though somewhat shaken up.  We don't really trust that car anymore.
7.  I JUST took the car in yesterday to fix a headlight.
8.  Please no jokes about Zena having a "break-through."

9.  It's time to get some rest.  LONG day.

I don't know how else to put it.  Mommy is pretty shaken up, obviously.  The Forsyth County Fire Department moved very quickly, and believe it or not say this sort of thing happens more frequently than you think.  We're just happy that nobody was hurt.  Obviously, this includes Mommy and Madison.
