Heimlich

Today was an "off" day for Madison.  As long as the medicine was kicking in, she was fine.  Otherwise - until about 9:00 pm - it was a battle with a fever and fatigue.  She sat on the couch for much of the day, resting as she should be.

Mommy put out the candy corn, and Heimlich too.  He's the caterpillar from the movie "A Bug's Life." Whenever you hit his bottom, he calls out, "Oh, candy corn!  I hate performing on an empty stomach!" For some reason, Madison has really been taken by this doll lately.  She hits it all the time.  This doll, though, goes back in our family long before Madison - before the turn of the century.  What a great expression:  "turn of the century."

Anyway, Mommy and Daddy went to see "A Bug's Life" together a few years before we got married.  We both thought Heimlich was hilarious, and pretty much collected what we could that had him on it.  In fact, they released a VHS version of the movie with only Heimlich on the cover.  Yes, we have that version.  We also got a few other things, but the one thing that's stuck with us and remains a "fall decoration" is this stuffed Heimlich that speaks when his bottom is hit (which, of course, is called the Heimlich maneuver).

Madison so far is the only one that has had the decency to actually give Heimlich some candy corn.  He's not complaining.

This afternoon, Daddy made an unexpected trip to the house with an unusually large piece of furniture. The media room here at the church was exchanging furniture, and getting rid of some really long desks that used to be the home for a few workers - the smallest is fifteen feet long!  These are customized, and slightly used - but the neat thing is that they are perfect for something Mommy needs for laying out her fabrics and costumes.  We loaded up a trailer and made the trip home today, visiting with Madison and Mommy, and then heaving this huge table down the hill around the house, and in through the basement, where this thing will stay.  It's a blessing.  This would have probably been thrown out, simply because nobody else knows what to do with it.  But it fits in the largest room of our basement, and works for our needs - which happen to be the needs of the church frequently.  So it's a win-win for everyone.  Later, Daddy will be taking some rolling chairs as well (Mommy doesn't know about that one yet).

Madison went to bed on time tonight, certainly ready for it.  Daddy read to her a few more chapters from "Alice in Wonderland," which will take a little over a week to get through.  Madison is listening intently, even with the pages that have no pictures.  Listening alongside of Madison are Alice and the Cheshire Cat, two friends from some time ago.  The three of them will sleep well tonight, and hopefully we'll be back to the real world tomorrow.
