Summer Reading Program Complete!

This morning before taking off for work, we finished the Summer Reading Program completely.  The above "certificate" just lists 12 of the books she's read over the past several weeks.  We've actually finished seventy-five books together.  Some of them Daddy reads, and some of them Madison reads.  Together, we've stayed true to the course and went through a whole lot of books.  We'll still get more as time goes by:  she loves to read, and this is great to see.  We actually have a decent collection of books at home, so it would be nice to start going through those again too - but there's something about the library, isn't there?

The rain continued to pour down, wave after wave of relentless rain storms.  There's even another wave coming within the next half hour or so - although this looks to be the last one for the night.  It's been a drenching, soaking sort of week, where we've absolutely been submerged.  Daddy pulled out a few "Noah's Ark" books to read Madison, as this sort of weather makes you automatically think of that story.  No rainbows yet though!

Today was a stay-at-home day, mostly.  Mommy wasn't doing so well, but Madison went with Nana and Ba-Ba out to do a little shopping.  They had fun together, and Madison even got herself a new bag for her tennis racket.  She's pretty proud of that.

Tonight Madison was watching "Doc McStuffins" on television.  It's a show about a future doctor, who spends her time diagnosing and prescribing solutions for her patient toys.  Madison knows the theme song already.  Out of curiosity afterwards, we were asking Madison what it was she wanted to do when she grew up.  We were just curious.  No, she didn't mention doctor.  She didn't actually have an answer, really.  We were throwing out different occupations, just for fun.  They all sounded nice to her, but she wasn't firm in any one direction.  No matter - she's got plenty of time to decide!

In the meantime, one career she can further pursue is that of an animator.  This morning as we were all rising, Madison took to the table next to Nana, and promptly starting giving her a lesson on how to draw.  The two of them were working on their own drawing projects, not based on any other picture at all - it was from their heads.  Madison decided she was going to draw Nana, and she was showing her how to do it too.

This is sort of one of those vicarious moments.  Mommy sort of vicariously lives through Madison when watching her learn to dance ballet.  Daddy suddenly gets all excited watching Madison improve in her drawing.  And it is neat to see her so confident:  "Here," she says, "you draw a big circle like this.  And then you use an orange pencil to make the hair like this..."

Okay, it's time to wrap up writing for the night:  here comes the rain outside... the next storm is finally arriving... Good night!
