The morning started out at the movies, where Madison and everyone else got to see the movie "Epic." It was lots of fun - and a place for all of us grown-ups to feel tempted to go to sleep for an hour or so. I mean, it's a dark, cool place and the kids are all focused on the movie on the big screen - so why not? The answer is simple: pranks. Never fall asleep anywhere accessible during Summer Xtreme. It's a basic rule. Fear keeps us from going to sleep!
After the movie, it was time to return to the church for a bit. We had a fantastic service tonight, and an emotional one at times. The worship part of the service was very special.
Madison was taking it all in. The children are praying for each other here, and there was a sweet spirit here as children were singing songs and giving each other hugs. It was a big service, one with lots of noise and lots of fun - Daddy worries a little bit about her sometimes. He went to check on her, and got a great, big hug. But she seemed to be doing okay, and in a way, I'm glad the Vikings were towards the back so that she could absorb all that was going on around her.
As for the skits and games, those were a lot of fun for everyone, of course. Daddy's character was "voted off the island" today.
Tonight was a regular service, but many of the Summer Xtreme kids didn't make it. They were all just too exhausted. Yep, that's the way we feel too! Today is Wednesday, so two more days. But these can be some of the longest yet. It's tiring, but it's also great to see the kids. It's a balance, and a bittersweet moment when it's all done. Glad to get some sleep, and yet sad to see all the chaos end. We'll savor the next few days.
