Apple Harvest

Here's just one of the many crafts and colorings that come home with Madison each week - she actually does quite a bit! She also had a construction paper balloon that was decorated, complete with a long string to hold it by. Daddy picked her up from school today and was given a tour of the Wall of Fame, where a lot of her artwork goes - along with all of the other children's masterpieces. Madison was proud of some fall leaves she had colored, along with some other artwork related to the season.

Outside, the rain continues to pour down. For the past two days, it has been dreary and overcast, with plenty of water for our thirsty area. Daddy explained as much to Madison, that as yucky as the weather may seem outside, we all certainly do appreciate how God takes care of us and gives us what we need.

Tonight before bed, we read a Chinese-themed book that we've had for quite some time. Madison requested it, and Daddy was happy to oblige.

MADISON'S BOOK CLUB

"The Emperor and the Kite" is an interesting story of a daughter who is somewhat overlooked by her father, the Emperor. It happens for two reasons: she is small, and she is also one of several children much older and larger than she. Of course, a terrible situation arises where none of the other children can help - it is ultimately up to this tiny daughter to save the day. She uses her ability, and her kite, to do just that, and as a result we learn together that every person has value. And the Emperor learns to honor his youngest, smallest daughter, all of his days.

It's a neat little story, and Ed Young's illustrations are as usual, very fitting and well done. It's a great book to read, although some of the wording is perhaps for an older audience. That's where Daddy steps in and rephrases things for Madison.

But she did enjoy the book - so much so that she wanted to have it in bed with her as she slept! No, Daddy told her, we don't want the pages to get all wrinkly. She understood, so we placed the book beside her bed so she could have it when she woke up.
