Snow Angel

We woke up to the sound of footsteps rushing down the hallway - Madison was calling out: "Snow!"

We were out in it quickly this morning. It wasn't the type of snow we could build a snowman with after all, but that didn't stop us from having fun. It was about six or seven inches deep, and it looked beautiful. Madison's first steps out into the winter wonderland were careful and curious, but once she got out there, she was in the zone. Fortunately, Mommy dressed her very warmly. We put on several layers and were pretty careful about getting her as covered as possible. Yes, she wound up looking a little like that kid on "A Christmas Story" who could hardly even move!

But she still had a ton of fun outside this morning. Her favorite thing to do is make snowballs and throw them at Daddy, as illustrated here below:

This cracks her up! She can seriously do this all day, and that be enough for her. But the real fun came once we tried a makeshift sled out of some of our leftover cardboard from the move.

We had so much fun sliding down the hill in our backyard, even after we had one serious wipeout! We were zooming down the side of the hill, and sort of lost control - hitting the bushes. Madison went flying and landed in the snow!

It was all in her face, and her hair was everywhere. Daddy was worried, but then he heard her laughing and laughing! She wanted to do it again!

We were blessed this morning, because our neighbor saw us having fun and let us borrow her little blue saucer sled.

After a few slides down the hill, it was time to make snow angels. Madison has been wanting to do this for quite some time, even mentioning it last night: "Snow angels!" She plopped down in the snow in the back yard, and made one right there.

Lookie here: A snow angel made by a snow angel. We sure did have a great time out in our beautiful winter wonderland. But we'd been out for a while, and we were both ready to come inside and get a little warmer. As we were coming in, the snow started changing to freezing rain, and we didn't want to get too cold. The angel still sits frozen in our yard, and maybe we'll get out there and play some more around it, but it was time to get inside and spend a few moments getting out of our cold, wet clothing and sit by the cozy fire in the fireplace.

It's been a wonderful day. We snuggled under the blankets - and watched "Mulan 2" again, as Chinese New Year is just around the corner. Everyone had soup for lunch to warm up, but it doesn't look like we'll be going anywhere in town today because of the weather.

No worries though. We're having a great day: Mommy, Daddy and our little snow angel.
