Bad Dad Joke

Scattered showers today, the sort where things are bright and sunny one moment and then suddenly there are deluges and downpours, all while it's still bright and sunny.  The wind was pouring in late tonight too, the weather seeming to be a bit tropical, although the temperature wasn't too bad.

Maddie had her taekwondo tonight, which consisted of her helping to assist with the younger class initially.  In fact, she was leading the stretching exercises at the onset of class, directing students which way to stretch and so forth.  Her other class was in another room where I couldn't see much, but she's enjoying leadership class.  She'll be back again tomorrow.  On the way home we usually see deer in a few typical locations, and there was this one she spotted that prompted this terrible dad joke:

Maddie:     "Oh look there’s a deer over there.

Dad:           "Where?"

Maddie:     "I think he’s over the hill."

Dad:           "He’s not that old."

We got home and Maddie spent the rest of the evening doing some pre-calculus homework and studies, while Mom and I were watching some stuff related to Planet of the Apes.  Yes, the theme goes on!

Super fun documentary - we'll finish up the original series tomorrow night, perhaps.  Maddie wanted to see how it all wraps up.  Of course, there are four more movies afterwards... and then the one in theaters this summer...  and ironically, unintentionally, we have a character we've been planning for some time to return to Summer Xtreme, a guy named "Dr. Gorilla," who is in fact a gorilla of supreme intelligence and maniacal tendencies.  Who also has a banana launching weapon.  Anyway, he's coming back and we were just discussing that today when I realized all this time we're watching these Apes movies... funny!

Okay, moving on.  One thing that happened today is that the Discovery area said they had some stuff to give away down the hall, stuff that might get donated or thrown away.  So about five of us wandered down there, and picked up a few things.  But one thing we each got was a bag of rubber bands!  And this led to an amazing rubber band battle, just to work off some stress I suppose.  But it was epic!  There were rubber bands all over the place to pick up afterwards.

It was a productive day otherwise.  For one thing, we were at the middle school again, leading in worship, games, and a lesson from the book of Exodus.  In my readings right now, I'm in Leviticus, which is a challenge, but I'm reading through and trying to take in as much as I can.  There are some super helpful resources out there that are great in explaining things or showing the reasons and purposes.  And it's all become very interesting.

Tonight we read yet another depressing short story "From a Certain Point of View."  This one was from Princess Leia's parents on the planet Alderaan, just as it is about to be destroyed.  Yep.  I think I should have written this one, but no one asked me.  I'd probably write something like...

*********

BREHA:  "Hello, my love.  So glad to see you."

BAIL:  "Yes, I've finally arrived here on Alderaan.  I've traveled across the stars to see you."

BREHA:  "Oh, what a wonderful day!  I've got so much to tell you about the - "

(The planet Alderaan explodes).

Nailed it!  Anyway, today was a quiet day.  They're still painting the church this brilliant white color on the insides.  Despite the fact that things were scheduled to move in our office months ago - we've all had these empty desks now for months - things are not painted in there yet.  We'll get there though.  Maybe!

It was still a good day.  Mom is getting things prepared for taxes, because that deadline is soon.  Additionally we've made appointments for the car, and there's doctor appointments peppered in here and there.  The prom is next week, which is crazy.  Maddie's going to the prom next week.  Wow.

We said our prayers, and closed out the day as we always do, with everyone getting tucked in and a good night's rest as the rain and wind blew outside.
