Twenty-three years ago, Mom and I got married. It's easy to remember the anniversary, because we just look at the year number! Mom pointed out that we dated for two years before that, so we've known each other for twenty-five years now, which is crazy to think about. It's like another lifetime ago.
We slept in today, as Summer Xtreme was pretty taxing. I had to go in to work for a bit, prepping for a message tomorrow on Sunday, because the show must go on. I was happy to do an old message, one based on a movie that is almost as old as our wedding date, a movie called "Sky High." It's a favorite of ours, and I was talking with Tytus, a college student that has been involved with us quite a bit at KidPak and eventually hired with us. He's a big fan of the movie and was speaking tomorrow, and since we're doing a series that involves movie clips and so on, we thought it'd be fun to visit that movie again. He's watching it tonight, and yes, we saw it this evening as well. I'm just going to say it now: I love this movie. It's super fun!
Nana is weaker, but her spirits are up. We were there to see her for an hour and a half or so today. We had the Scottish coronation of King Charles on the television, and there were some folks there that weren't happy about it, but we just wanted to put on something familiar for Nana, who saw all the bagpipers and the old church there along with the cobblestone streets and pageantry. We did our traditional Mad-Lib, and we changed the sheets and did all those things we usually do when dropping by. It was a good visit. She's not very mobile at all, certainly a lot wobbly. She has a walker to help her now, one of those with wheels and handles. But she spends most of her time, we suspect, in her room - rather than much interaction with the other residents there. Still, she was in good spirits when we came. She spoke to her son George on the phone for a bit, and we had a good bit of talking there. Some questions are repetitive, but that's okay. There is this one funny exchange that goes on - I give Mom five or ten dollars or whatever is in my wallet, and she slips that into a drawer, because Nana goes over to look into the drawer and find some money there that she can give to Maddie, and Maddie knows what's going on and acts grateful for the gift of five to ten dollars or whatever, and expresses her gratitude, and then later on quietly hands the money back to me where it all started out at. This goes on each visit. It was pleasant, although her air conditioner unit was unplugged - I suspect she may have done that. The end result was a muggy room when we got there, although she was fine she said. We plugged it back in and cooled things off a little bit.
On the way out, a director of the facility was there to talk with. She knows Pastor Lance, and apparently she's a big Taylor Swift fan. We know this because Maddie was wearing her new Taylor Swift sweatshirt that she got in the mail this week. The two were talking about favorite songs and the concert and all kinds of Swifty things while Mom and I just stood back and listened in. It was funny. Maddie got these two items in the mail from the current Eras Tour, things we ordered literally the night we got back from the concert. She's been watching the mail ever since and was super happy to finally get her merch this past Wednesday night. She's been wearing that sweatshirt pretty much ever since!
Before going home, we tried a new place to eat, one that serves chicken wings. It's somewhat of a sports bar look with booths and television screens and all kinds of different flavors for your wings. Obviously, Maddie went with something spicy. Mom and I did some unique flavors, and all three of us ate our fill and enjoyed a pretty good meal together. Mom said she'd eat there again, and we all agreed it was a good stop any time we were over to see Nana.
Well, it was a good Saturday. We got a few things done, picked some blueberries and got ready for tomorrow. We'll do a proper anniversary celebration some other time here, but today was a nice, quiet and restful day. We read tonight, and we prayed - and then it was time for bed.
