Kicking Off with Martial Arts

Madison started martial arts training today, right after school.  It's a bit of a thing to figure out, one where Daddy has to get to the school about a half-hour early and wait in position to pick up Madison after school.  It gives us about fifteen minutes of extra time to play with, just enough to get home, eat some food and get into a gi.

Mommy and Daddy went to Edge Martial Arts tonight, and we brought some things with us to help fill the time.  Little did we realize that there'd be so many KidPak parents there already.  We could start a small group for KidPak there in the waiting area with all the moms and dads who drop their kids off for martial arts.  Daddy talked with a few other dads as Mommy talked with a few moms, and before long, it was time for Madison to go.  She had a great time herself, and we were able to see her through the observation windows as she and her friends were practicing postures and maneuvers.  It was her first day with something we've signed her up with - going from ballet to nunchucks.  She's wanting to do it though, and has her eye on that next belt already, a yellow one.  The class is just the right size, and of course the instructors are favorites of Madison's.  Bart and Christine are fantastic with the kids, and they have a lot of help from Tucker, who also goes to KidPak with us.  It's a really solid crew, and yes, we're happy with her learning some self-defense techniques, as well as the other benefits of going to martial arts classes.  So here we go, class #1.  Two times a week, from now on...

Madison had a good day at school today.  She has her gym locker now, so that's two lockers.  She's taking pre-assessment tests to begin with, things that measure what she already knows.  She says she's doing pretty well on these, which is outstanding.  We're pretty proud of her!

Meanwhile, we've taken down the set at KidPak that we've had up since May, which is so long ago.  A new Star Wars set is going up, and we're doing printed material and writing scripts too.  There is a lot to do before we get things kicked off on Sunday - and Daddy and Josh will be back on the main stage tomorrow night for another skit upstairs.  Lots going on there at the church, and also a bit going on with government too, I think.  Daddy helped orchestrate a letter to the administration today, one we got a quick response too - it was all a result of a recent visit to Washington by some of our staff here at the church, including Pastor Lance.  We were writing about the issues that we care about most, and again, we got a personal reply pretty quickly (rather than some form letter).  Maybe we'll be going ourselves to Washington some time soon, who knows.

Until then, here's a picture of Daddy, who really looks like he's into a bowl of Frosted Flakes:

Last vacation in Florida, Nana and Ba-ba got Daddy a ceramic bowl with Tony the Tiger on it.  So, yeah, the last time we went grocery shopping, I had to get some Frosted Flakes, and then pose with a bowl of it for breakfast.  Actually, it's been a while since I've had a bowl - they're pretty good!  I mean, rather, ... they're great!

Moving on, tonight we said our prayers and read from our books.  Once we're done with this book of the "Unfortunate Events," we'll be caught up with the television series.  Meaning, the next book we read will be an unknown to us.  The series keeps close to the books, although a lot is added.  That said, there aren't too many surprises in the book right now because we've seen the television show.  The next book, however, will be quite a bit different.

Also on the reading list tonight:  X-Men comics with Hazard, a crazy vengeance-crazed villain for a few comics.  We also meet Stryfe for the first time, setting up "The Executioner's Song," which goes on for quite a few issues.  Can't wait to see that one again, and it's been fun reliving these with Madison.  Haven't picked up these comics in years, and they're all in great shape!

Anyway, we said our prayers tonight after reading, and did our zerberts - and then it was time to get some shut-eye.  We went to bed, dreaming about Hoth, Unfortunate Events, mutant heroes, and using nunchucks on bad guys.
