Jumanji Weeds

It's been a good time for Madison to recover somewhat from the three consecutive weeks of camps, expended energy and early risings.  We slept in today, but were out the door a little later in the morning for a few mundane tasks.  One was a visit to a new building we hadn't been to before, a place to do our early voting.  There are three run-offs to vote for for us, and so we were there today with Madison, who was charming as always.  She was talking with a lady there, and of course there was a free lollipop for Madison by the end of it all.  Madison was being sweet, of course.

We also went to Lowe's to get five bags of mulch.  Heading home, we were ready to attack the back yard a bit.  It's a campaign to win back the back yard, which over the course of a few short weeks is being overtaken by these Jumanji weeds.  Some of these things grow so big and so fast, and of course a bunch of them have thorns on them.  We have enough of a variety back there to make a horticulturist have that same look of joy that those kids did when they entered Willy Wonka's chocolate factory.

Nevertheless, undaunted, Mommy and Daddy strapped on special gloves and grabbed cutting shears, marching with determination towards those heinous plants.

A sword also helps.  It took a while, but we uprooted the lot of them, which might be a bit more fun if you were doing it virtually in a Minecraft world.  Simultaneously, that's what Madison was doing upstairs.  We thought it best to have her stay away from these pointy weeds, and maybe help us out later.  She was working on her massive complex, inspired by others and her own new ideas that keep flooding in.  She's got this huge empire, and we'll have to post pictures of it soon.

Meanwhile, we were laying out the mulch, and now things are well in one section of the backyard.  We still have the encroaching encampments of weed squadrons coming in from the wooded area.  Our back yard real estate is shrinking by inches daily.  We will continue the good fight in time, one battle at a time.  We'll win this one, but it takes a little bit at a time.

Madison did some piano when we got back in, just because it's good even on a day of rest like this to get up and do something different, right?  We also did some reading, of course, from comic books and from "A Series of Unfortunate Events."  We're plowing right through this series, although I fear we'll be in it for a few more months.  It'll be quite a moment when we finally finish this series, because it's been quite a long process.

We're starting to pack somewhat for our upcoming trip, and Daddy was working on getting things finished up for the new series this weekend.  There was a new booklet to proof and index cards to mail out.  It will all be fine, and on time.

Can't wait for this weekend though.  Saturday we leave, and it's hard to believe we're already here at this point where we're going back to the beach once again.
