Hidden Rebel Base

It was at the library.  But in case the Empire is reading this blog, we won't tell you which library it was at.  Today after church, we went to go to a Star Wars-themed event at our local library, which consisted of a few activities and crafts - and this one stray rebel trooper.  What are these guys called?  Sure, he's with the rebellion, but do they have a name?

Anyway, she constructed her own lightsaber here, this one out of that purple foam tubing you use in swimming pools.  That and some black and silver tape.  Really, it was a clever idea on how to make these - and as you could imagine, all the kids were having lightsaber battles.  This was honestly the highlight of the event for Madison.  She did some coloring sheets and made Yoda ears as well.  Also, there was a jedi obstacle course.  There were other kids dressed up in Star Wars costumes as well, so that really added to the atmosphere.  But Madison's favorite thing to do is whack people with her lightsaber.  Trust me, she's been hitting Daddy all day.

We got home and felt pretty unproductive.  That's because we had a massive morning.  That's because a popular Presidential candidate came to our church.  He's tied for first in some polls, and running a close second in others, so that drew a lot of folks to the church.  We got there early, and had a great morning at KidPak, which of course is far and away from the maddening crowd.  There were so many people at the main service that they had to go to the North Campus to watch the service on a screen.  Fortunately, we got there a lot earlier than normal.  Oh, and in case you're wondering who it was, Daddy snuck upstairs with a few cast members from KidPak, and took a photo with the guy.

Okay, so we're not with the guy, but Dr. Ben Carson is there behind us signing books.  As workers, we didn't have time to wait in the ginormous line that there was for book signing.  But at least we got to see and hear him a little bit.  Here's a shot of him at service upstairs:

Madison and Mommy got to see him as well, which was neat.  He's certainly got the attention of a lot of folks across the country, so it'll be one of those little footnote moments where Madison can look back and say, "Hey, I saw him when he came to our church."

So anyway, that was our morning.  And the afternoon you read about as well, along time ago in a galaxy far far away.  The rest of the day was about finishing piano, and popping in "Nightmare Before Christmas."  Yes, we pulled that trigger already.  Daddy was anxious to watch that movie, and so was Madison for that matter - she requested it.  So we popped the popcorn, and we got to bed a little early tonight.  Back to school tomorrow, but it's been a fairly eventful weekend!
