Madison has finished her big scary story for school, complete with illustrations as well. We won't get to see the final product - a book - until after the month has passed though. Still, Daddy got a peek at the rough draft, and typed out the horrifying details below. Read on, if you dare!
Will you go in the dark night with me? I saw ghosts and candy witches for the first time. I heard creepy and screechy laughter! I was going to run away! But then I saw a haunted house that was made out of candy corns. I was eating some of it!
Next I almost went into the dining room. But then I stopped and heard something say, "Enter if you dare!" After that, I ran into the room, but I felt scared! Then I saw a cat and a ghost fighting over something. When I took one more step, they started chasing me! I burst through the door without stopping! I was scared now!
But this time I went into the bedroom. I heard creepy and screechy meows. I just jumped on the bed. It made me feel calmer. But after that, I saw three ghosts and they were having a party. They were trying to keep me there! I climbed the wall like Spider-Man!
Then I went into the laboratory. I heard laughter. It was screechy and bubbly! I did some walking, but I was confused. I saw four candy corn witches again. They were drinking from their cauldron. Then they tried to make me their sister! Finally I jumped out of the window! I safely landed in the pond.
I am out of the haunted house. I was super happy! But then I heard ghost sounds! It was creepy and screechy! Finally I ran to my house.
Thank you for visiting the haunted house.

We had piano class today, and Madison felt like a challenge apparently, because she's chosen the song "Going Fishing" for the recital upcoming. This one is a little tricky, but she's been practicing a lot lately, and we think she'll be able to nail it. She practices a lot!
Tonight, we kept the spooky vibes going with a visit to Sleepy Hollow. But Madison is pretty sure it's just Brom Bones all dressed up to scare Ichabod out of there. Still, we had fun seeing the story that we know so well, what with our ancestors being there at the time. Odds are, they were actually at Baltus Van Tassel's harvest festival party. That'd be pretty cool to see, come to think of it. While we have a time machine on our stage, that just might be a great party to attend. Of course, there's the matter of the ride home… through Sleepy Hollow…
It's been beautiful outside, cooling off wonderfully. Brisk fall is here at last, and it's perfect snuggle weather. We're not quite ready to put logs in the fireplace yet, but that time is just around the corner. The leaves aren't really changing yet either, although we may have plans to make a day trip upcoming, one northward into the mountains to see them for ourselves.
These Tuesdays are busy days, full of driving to and fro. But it's rewarding when Madison plays so well - it's becoming almost natural for her and her fingers on the keys. If only it was more natural for Daddy as well…!
It was Taco Tuesday as well. This is as much a holiday as any for Madison, who announces it as early as the ride into school. It's something to look forward to, a happy meal waiting once she gets home. And also waiting, the continuation of our reading before bed, something she also looks forward to. We read quite a bit around here - tomorrow, Madison will return to the book fair once more. We spent so much earlier, so she won't get as much. But we'll give her something to pick - we can't help spoiling her when it comes to books!
