We worked late into the night, Mommy and Madison on their preparations for vacation, and Daddy with his attempts at helping for Summer Xtreme in Gwinnett. Hopefully all will go well - we certainly put in the hours this week in setting things up. Despite the fact that we just finished one Summer Xtreme and are amazingly tired, we still spent quite a few hours this week setting up a new series, and a new week for Summer Xtreme. In the end, we're worn out, and quite ready for a vacation. It's been nine or ten months since we've had an opportunity to break away, so this will be pleasant. I hope. There is some work involved, some planning and coordination - but there are also moments to hit the pause button and do - hopefully - nothing whatsover. That's a good combination there.
So we're all packed with the new camera, a blessing from another friend at the church. They gave us a really nice camera, one we'll be testing out shortly for our first vacation in a while. We've got food packed from a recent grocery store visit, and our red lightsaber packed as well. Can't leave home without that. Need to have a lightsaber when you travel - keep that in mind as a handy tip. Also, we have several books from the library, along with a few DVDs. Mommy has packed a Princess Leia costume for Madison, and some Star Wars t-shirts for the both of us. And lots of sun tan lotion. Apparently, the "Sunshine State" has lots of sun. Seriously, Mommy and I are starting to see the effects of too much sun - we sort of get 'sun sick,' which is no fun. You feel the effects even a day later. With that said, we now have this uber sun screen, a lotion with that can repel sun power of that magnitude, a shield around us that makes us feel all greasy, and yet somehow a bit safer. Still, the heat can be unbearable. I'm really not sure if I could make it in Florida all the time. Those upper 90's temperatures are pretty intolerable.
Madison is packing all the essentials too. She's got lots of paper to draw upon, and markers and pencils too. Also a pencil sharpener. That's a big deal. She has a few movies, but will be spending more time reading this trip than ever before. She has a few books to cycle through.
We have our shiny pennies for the smashed penny machines, and we have our autograph booklet ready, although we're not sure if Darth Vader will be signing anything for anyone. It doesn't hurt to ask though. I think his name is signed in that cement at Gruman's Chinese Theater, so maybe he won't scoff when asking for an autograph. Maybe he'll actually be honored to do so!
Anyway, we're ready. We rented a car today, one that has no key to start the engine. Yes, we're old fashioned. Someday, keys will be completely irrelevant. Right now though, it's supremely weird trying to start a car without a key. You have to press a button? What's up with that? Also, the radio is satellite radio. Yes, this has been around for a while. Still, it's odd not hearing the static of a FM station. I suppose it's like not hearing the crackle of a record playing. Everyone knows that a satellite radio is better, but the nostalgia of a FM and AM will keep it around for a while.
So the car is ready to go. We'll test it out for sure on our journey. Mommy drove it around for a bit today, as she was doing chores. Daddy spent pretty much the entire day at church, preparing for the next few services. It's going to be a great week, in both places.
