Bad Calls

Well, it wasn't a terrible day, but it was indeed a day of bad calls:

1.  Bad Call #1:  This was the worst of the three, a phone call from a friend to let us know Nana was in the hospital.  No explanation why, so Daddy rushed there and found out for himself what was wrong:  nobody knew.  What we did know was that Nana was feeling nauseous and in a lot of pain.  In fact, this was quite similar to the experience Daddy had with pancreatitis himself, just a few months previous.  Daddy stayed there with Ye-Ye for a few hours, as they ran tests and gave Nana some pain medication (eventually).  Fortunately, she was eventually released from the hospital to go home - she'll have pain medication there, and some future visits to run tests.  Eventually, they'll figure out what it is, but right now it is a mystery.  The blessing is that she didn't have anything wrong with her cardiovascular system, which was the early thought.  We'll keep updating if there's any news.

2.  Bad Call #2:  This was our decision to see "Frankweenie."  It wasn't a terrible movie, but there were certainly some bits at the end we would have preferred Madison not see.  Still she thought the movie was okay, while Mommy turned to Daddy to say she didn't want to get that one for the collection.  For our money, "Hotel Translyvania" was better, although we're pretty big Tim Burton fans.  The animation was good, and the movie was decent.  It just wasn't right for Madison, and apparently for Mommy either!  Fortunately, we went with a bunch of people from work - it was all about hanging out together and enjoying a movie.  Which we did, while eating lots of candy and popcorn!

3.  Bad Call #3:  The umpire's call at the Brave's game tonight.  Actually, the bad call started a long time ago when somebody decided to have this one-game playoff.  As proven tonight, anything can happen in one game.  Errors were made, by team players and certainly by umpires - and the end result was a team with the fourth best record in baseball ending their season, and a legendary Braves player ending his career, all on a controversial note.  Why have a one-game playoff?  It isn't fair for anybody.  After that historic bad call, fans erupted with anger, throwing bottles and garbage on the playing field.  For Atlanta fans, this sort of passion is something pretty unusual.  You expect this kind of behavior from Boston or Philadelphia, but Atlanta?  That's how angry folks were tonight, and the bad umpire call was really just a trigger - the real problem was that they were in this game in the first place.  Glad Madison wasn't there - glad we weren't there either.  Too bad we'll miss getting to go to a game next week.  Too bad this had to be Chipper Jones' last game.  Way to go, MLB.
