So apparently IHOP is in charge of National Pancake Day, which is something different from International Pancake Day, which is celebrated one week from today. Why they aren't celebrated at the same time is a puzzler, although next Tuesday is actually also "Fat Tuesday," the day before Lent begins and the whole reason International Pancake Day was invented. If everyone is fasting, you'll want to get rid of a lot of those ingredients that will spoil, and pancakes are the best way to do that. Plus, they're pretty tasty. So, apparently International Pancake Day, or just plain old "Pancake Day" is a chance to scarf up pancakes, making the words "Fat Tuesday" a self-fulfilling prophecy.
This brings us back to National Pancake Day though, which is today - a full week earlier. Why a place like the International House of Pancakes doesn't embrace International Pancake Day is odd. Not only do they ignore this pretty solid and well-established tradition of Pancake Day, they decided to put their own version of Pancake Day one solid week ahead of time, perhaps to beat everyone to the punch?
Again, it's a puzzler. At least IHOP is asking for donations in placement of the pancakes - the money will go to a charity, which is always good. We didn't have time to make it to IHOP today, which was actually somewhat disappointing. However, Mommy did make us pancakes for breakfast. And boy, these pancakes were delicious!
Today was piano for Madison, who once again did marvelous on the keys. I think she gets a little stage fright and freezes up from time to time - but other than that, she's gotten so much better since the winter break. It's like things are sinking in really well. She's been practicing more and more - and as an added incentive, Daddy has told her she could have a particular video game if she gets a particular song down pat, with both hands. That song is "Packy's Parade," which was written for an elephant at the Oregon Zoo. He's somewhat of a celebrity over there, but he's an entire coast away, so I'm not sure if Madison will be playing her piano for him any time soon. His birthday is coming up on April 14th, so perhaps we could use Skype.
Anyway, tonight we did quite a bit of homework - Madison's letter of the week is "y." Daddy was looking up pictures of yaks, yetis, yellow jackets and a yellow submarine. Afterwards, we read books until bedtime, which was nice.
Madison has a funny thing she does at night. She'll say, "Come closer, I want to tell you something." And when you do, she pinches you!
Nana, Mommy and Daddy watched our movie of the night, an old one called "Charade." It was pretty decent, of course featuring Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant. It was a somewhat unusual movie, but we're glad we watched it. I'm not going to tell you the plot, but it is a puzzler. Not as much of a puzzler as IHOP's decision to have Pancake Day today, but still a puzzler nonetheless.
Okay, yes that was a stretch.
