Madison woke up this morning and did about five things before really getting going:
1. She opened a new present under her little tree. In conjunction with her advent calendar, she opens a small gift each morning. It's usually something crafty, like a small wooden tree that you can color in. This she did do later on - it's already under her tree, standing up.
2. She opened her advent calendar with Daddy. We do this each day, of course. Each door opens to find a picture of an object related to the Christmas story. There have been scrolls, candles, angels, and Mary so far - each part of the Christmas story and the birth of Jesus.
3. She opened Nana's advent calendar too. This one has nothing to do with the birth of Jesus. It's a nice picture of a Victorian Christmas scene - with about twenty-five doors in it. Behind each door is a piece of chocolate in the shape of a stocking or small train. Madison identifies the shape, and eats it, all in under two seconds.
4. She took another day off the chain. The paper chain hanging on the wall tells us how many more days until Christmas, and obviously gets smaller and smaller until the big day comes.
5. Finally, she found Jingle. He's been in a different spot each night, a trend that should continue until Christmas. This morning, he was spotted on the couch, munching popcorn and playing video games. This was a big delight for Madison.
When Daddy was young, he remembers December as a magical month. Santa had footsteps in snow down the hall, and a trail of Hershey's kisses too. Each December was a special place for imagination, and we're hoping Madison experiences the same thing growing up as well.
Today was Madison's cooking class, where she made a candy-coated snack mix. It was quite tasty, almost as good as Mommy's world-famous "Christmas Crack." This has nothing to do with any illegal drug: people have started calling it this because it is so addictive. I'll second that motion on the "addictive" nature of her reindeer mix. It's really delicious, and we can't wait until she makes some more. In fact, people at the office are already whining!
