Wee Bit of Fun

Interesting morning!  Firstly, we made it through the night.  It was loud, but again, the storms were diminished greatly by the time they reached our geography.  Unfortunately, the power was out in a larger portion of Hall County, including our main campus of our church.  We got there, and sure enough, we had no power this morning.  No power meant no church, at least for the first service.  That being said, Maddie went with Dawn and Emma down to Flowery Branch during that time, heading there to watch a dance competition that was going on at the same time.  Meanwhile, I was waiting in the parking lot, talking with others and hoping the power would come on soon.  And yes, the power did come on by the second service, and that was great news.

For one thing, one of Maddie's long-distance friends came up from Florida to visit Free Chapel this weekend, and that would have been a bummer if there was not a service.  We did, however, have a 11am service, and that was great.  Maddie enjoyed some time with her friend, and kept it a surprise for Emma, who happily found out next.

Maddie met her back on College Preview Day a few months ago, and the two have been talking online ever since.  It was great to see her again this morning.

As for the skit, it was good.  I found those size seventeen sneakers (no exaggeration), and we had a lot of basketballs on stage.  It was a skit with lots of energy, and the cast did really well!  We had this odd energy this morning, given that

Maddie took pictures again for service, and we were quickly posting them online.  It was a fun morning - we were talking about the story from Numbers 13.  You an see below how Josh is doing an illustration related to that.

We got home after that, and it was time to rest a bit.  None of us in this area slept well last night, given the huge storms that were coming, the ominous forecast, and just all the noise between midnight and three in the morning.  So rest was on the menu, and it was delightful.

But we did have one thing to go to tonight, and it was really special.  Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day, and so tonight we celebrated with Nana and Ye-Ye, with all the traditions - the corn beef and cabbage, the potatoes, the Irish soda bread, the music and the Irish movies playing in the background.

It was all very nice.  I think we were there about three hours, just catching up and talking for a while.  It was very restful and pleasant, and the food was delicious.

We got home after that, and quite naturally we watched "Darby O'Gill and the Little People," because that's the logical thing to do.  It's such a great movie, and mandatory this time of year.  Can you think of a better St. Patrick's Day movie?  One thing that always amazes is the practical special effects, the tricks they pulled off before CGI and special effects were around.

After the movie, it was time for a good night's rest.  It's quiet outside, although cold and windy again.  Perfect for diving under those blankets and getting some sleep.  We read tonight, and then said our prayers.  And then we all drifted off to sleep, exhausted from the adventurous weekend.
