Mom reminded me it was Flag Day today, and that was as the two of us were spending a quiet morning out here on the front porch. The flag is sitting there, our American flag hanging from the front porch, alongside a little patriotic garden flag nearby. It all looks rather nice. It's a cool morning, and really perfect temperature outside. The bugs aren't bothering us so much either. Mom made me some Frogs Breath coffee, and the two of us were just taking a breather out here before starting in our day today.
Maddie stayed in bed, sleeping in a bit as I was off to another coffee shop, another one on the square. We still made time to send Maddie a photo of us there, and Camille made sure she had a goofy facial expression.
We powered through and got the final two Summer Xtreme Skits written out here, and yes, Maddie's got a pretty fun part in it. Camille does too, actually, and it will be a lot of fun to do in just a few weeks. And how great to have it all wrapped up. We're making a lot of progress, in fact. I've gotten next week's material all done and the slides are finished for that too. Plus we got the slides ready for Summer Xtreme... everything is coming together.
Nana is getting a few extra visits from the doctor, and we may need to upgrade her care somewhat. That's going on simultaneous, as is our preparation for tomorrow's birthday party. Maddie is officially sixteen going on seventeen, and we made sure that as I closed the door to her room tonight before bed, I snuck back and placed this laptop on the ground facing her door. And then I blasted that song from "The Sound of Music," two teenagers belting out, "Sixteen Going on Seventeen." It's a really long song. Maddie endured the entire thing without even opening her door, just laughing at the ridiculousness of it all.
She had FCY tonight. You can see her - sort of - towards the right. Or at least part of her. Her friend came along tonight, and the two had a good time. There was a panel of youth leaders sharing testimonies at first, and Maddie was recalling all of that in the car on the way home. Afterwards, there was a gaming truck again outside, one with video games and so forth inside. Also nearby was that ice cream truck, and of course she had some of that. I did too!
We read tonight, and we're approaching the end of this book, "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe," and getting ready to embark upon "Life, the Universe and Everything." It's been a fun read, and Maddie's enjoying this classic geek book. So many references in life are made to this series, from the number 42 to just about anything about Marvin. He's easily Maddie's favorite character of the series.
After reading, we said our prayers, and the plush entourage escorted our sixteen year old daughter down the hall one more time. After getting tucked in and closing the door to her room and saying "goodnight," you know what happened next...
