So it was a big day today, National Root Beer Float Day, a day where patriotic citizens from sea to shining sea could share a common joy in life: root beer floats. On the way home from speech therapy, we picked up the root beer and the ice cream, and before bed there was much celebrating of this sacred holiday! The three of us enjoyed some delicious root beer floats before bedtime, which were delicious of course.
But that's not the biggest thing that happened today, of course. No, this was the biggest thing that happened today:
It was the first day of THIRD GRADE. Yes, we officially have a third grader now. Madison was dropped off at school this morning, and we were up and going with our school year routine once more. One noticeable change is that Madison has her own alarm clock. This got a most amusing reaction from her when she first heard it, as you might expect. We assured her it was completely natural to hit the snooze button, after fumbling around in the dark.
The traffic wasn't so bad this morning, probably because we got there a little earlier. Madison does have a pretty good walk across the school to get to her classroom, along with all the other third graders who are dropped off. But the trade-off is getting to sleep in a little longer.
Anyway, her first day went well - Madison has a few friends in her classroom, and seems to like her teacher a lot. Mrs. Loftus, her teacher, told the class that she's in the same neighborhood as Madison, who said that was kind of embarrassing!
The rest of the day went well, although we didn't get as much information about the school day, other than introductions and so forth. The bus got back around 3:00, just before the rain started to fall. Seriously, we stepped onto the porch, and then it started to rain - as if waiting for us to get across the street and front lawn first.
Afterwards, it was on to speech therapy - and the bank, and the library as well. We picked up a few more books for the next few weeks of reading before bedtime. This has been a bigger thing lately, getting all these chapter books.
So that's how you spend National Root Beer Float Day. It was a good one - the day, that is. Madison is asleep early, and Mommy and Daddy are continuing our binge watch of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." We dreamed up a great future series at KidPak, maybe as soon as November, actually. We also came up with a few messages for the new time travel series as well. Everything is coming along nicely...!
