Today marked our annual visit to Chestatee Elementary school, where Madison met her new teacher for the first time, Mrs. Loftus. She was formerly a teacher at Johns Creek Elementary, and has actually met Madison before: at our pool! That's right, she lives in our own neighborhood, and jogs by our house from time to time.
Madison posed for a photo with her, and Daddy filled out the three metric tons of paperwork that we usually have to fill out, a sort of stack of papers that reminds you of that time you got a mortgage for your house. Her classroom is much further down the hallway now, along with the other third graders, which means for a longer walk into the school when dropped off. But she doesn't mind - there's a sort of prestige that's developing, a rise in the ranks. It's a march of awesomeness, heading to her new classroom. Everything was neatly organized there, and we enjoyed our short time in the classroom.
Next, the cafeteria, where we pre-purchased a yearbook. We put some money on Madison's cafeteria account - ice cream money! Also, we picked up our new car tags as well.
There was a billion people there. That was the most crowded I've ever seen that school, ever. It was like the entire county decided to drop by there, all at the same time at 4:00 pm. And there was no turning back afterwards, so we were all parking on the grass, driving on sidewalk paths and testing out how off-road our cars could really be.
But it was a nice evening, and a nice chance to see Madison's new classroom and teacher. Madison herself is a little nervous again, and a little excited too. I love her spirit. I wish I had that in third grade, instead of the absolute mournful fear of the loss of summer. I hated school so much! But what a joy to see her looking forward to it, courageous and full of energy. She gave Mrs. Loftus a hug, and was happily on her way - we'll see you in two days!
The rest of the day was work for Daddy, and play for Madison. We're going to hit the ground running on Thursday, starting up with our school schedule once more. There is ballet coming, piano on the way, speech therapy on the calendar too. We'll have the rewards system all set up, and we'll be ready to get the school season machine rolling. It's going to be a fun year!
Tonight, it was Taco Tuesday, where Madison ate THREE tacos. She's a growing girl, that's for sure! Daddy read a bit from a Rush Revere book tonight, as it pertains to time traveling - we're really getting into this theme leading up to the new series. We read from another Bible too, a pink 'girl's' Bible, with stories written in a way she can understand them easily. Devotional time is nice as well - for one, we don't just stop at one. We keep reading, because she likes to hear the Bible. We couldn't be happier to hear her ask for a little more.
So tonight, she went to bed earlier, getting acclimated to the early-to-bed, early-to-rise schedule. Mommy and Daddy watched a few more episodes of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." where coincidentally, General Talbot mentioned Taco Tuesday. Yeah, it's a big thing now, Taco Tuesday.
