We visited the chiropractor again today, which hasn't been quite the regular thing it used to be basically because of conflicting schedules - there are times they aren't open, and of course Madison has school and beyond to contend with. Speaking of which, this is the week we start school. Yikes! Third grade will be here soon, whether we're ready or not!
We went to the Texas Roadhouse afterwards, one of the few places Mommy knows she can get a safe and filling meal to eat. And a good meal too, complete with all kinds of country music to educate Madison about. She calls it all cowboy music, which is fine. She knows the different styles, and was even stomping her foot down at one old song.
Our tummies full, we decided on one last stop, a bit of improv: we went to Goodwill again. Mommy found a desk easel for really cheap, and Daddy found a gem: "Christmas in the Stars," a Star Wars-themed Christmas record on vinyl and in great condition. I think there were only 150,000 of these printed, but this one isn't a treasure so much because of its potential value. It's the fun factor: C3PO and R2-D2 both telling - and possibly singing - Christmas stories. And the artwork on the album is fantastic.
We'll listen to it closer to Christmas. Anyway, we have fun looking for treasures in Goodwill, but today we seemed to find a few more. Daddy even found a CD of the Beach Boys Christmas album, something we picked up in honor of our recent visits to the beach.
Let's see... what else is going on... did we mention the garage door openers are working again? We got new door openers, and got them up and going. Or down and going, depending on your point of view. We also have a few more summer reading prizes to claim now - Borders Books has a deal where if you read a certain amount of books over the summer, you get a prize. And so does Chuck E Cheese. Madison wants to go to Chuck E Cheese, so we might drop by Saturday or something. She's read a lot, and something else really cool is that she is memorizing each memory verse for the week. She had this one's down in no time.
Impressed, Daddy got her the latest "Inside Out" app on the Kindle, a 'bubble-shooting' game with all the characters from the movie. So far, she's in Hockey Land. Which won't make any sense unless you've seen the movie...
Tomorrow, we meet our teacher for the first time - although she left a message on our voicemail today. We looked up her profile on the school site, and now we've got a picture to match. It's a big day returning to school for open house tomorrow, but Madison says she's 'half-ready' for it. The other half is not ready because summer has been so much fun. She's done a LOT this summer: Summer Xtreme, Disney, Kennedy Space Center, Library events, Art Camp, Ballet Camp, Satellite Beach, Lowe's Avengers, Movies, and more. I guess you could just scan backwards on the blog to see what she's done. It's been a good, full summer - although too short. Starting the first week of August is kind of weird. But we do get more time off during the school year itself, so we'll see how it plays out.
