The weather outside is pretty cold, but doing this Elvis-themed virtual marathon has been fun on the treadmill indoors while watching movies I've never seen before, classics like "Easy Come, Easy Go," "Roustabout," "Fun in Acapulco," and "Girls! Girls! Girls!" Next up: "Paradise, Hawaiian Style." Each day I've been posting some Elvis quotes as I'm walking in Memphis - virtually, of course. It's a great theme this month!
This morning we were back to the chiropractor getting our adjustments. Mom is still under the weather, but she came along with us because adjustments help the whole body out. Maddie is seen above getting a quick adjustment, and look who is in the background, looking on.
Looks like he's ready for an adjustment too.
Yep, he's definitely needing an adjustment.
All better now?
Tonight Maddie was at taekwondo, of course. She enjoyed the training, and the discussions about all the events coming in the new year. Afterwards, we stopped by Nate's place, because he missed tonight due to being sick. He's been under the weather all week now, and that's a bummer. But Maddie dropped by and that cheered him up.
We started getting some of these ornaments off the tree, and we'll continue that work through the weekend. This gave me an opportunity to watch over Mom and get her tea from time to time, or a hot water bottle or whatever she needed. Meanwhile, we had some things on the television while I was taking down Christmas decorations and ornaments. It's a big process.
As we took some ornaments down, we actually got some new ornaments in the mail. Each year I get the latest White House Historical Society ornament, and this year they had three ornaments available because it's the semiquincentennial. That's a crazy word. And we're going to be hearing it a lot this year. I mean, it's easier to say "250th anniversary," right? Anyway, the new ornaments came in: I got the official one for the year, a really amazing replica of the Declaration of Independence. There's also another new ornament, a 250th anniversary ornament with an eagle and map of the lower 48 states. Alaska and Hawaii are going to feel left out on that one. The third ornament I picked up was something that completed a small gap in my Presidential time line: the second Grover Cleveland ornament. This one was from 2009, and is just gorgeous. It celebrates the first time electric Christmas lights were on a tree at the White House. It's a unique ornament because it's another Grover Cleveland ornament, commemorating his second term, that nonconsecutive term back in 1892. There are interesting parallels between President Cleveland and our current President, including the fact that both had to deal with something in Venezuela. Anyway, these three patriotic ornaments will go up soon enough on a patriotic tree, one we'll probably set up earlier this year because it's our nation's... wait for it... semiquincentennial!
Okay, so I did some office work while Maddie was at taekwondo. Hopefully we're all ready for Sunday now! Tonight's movie was an old one, but a new one to me. I never got around to seeing "Little Giants" before, but we saw that tonight and it was pretty fun. It's one of those kids feel-good sports movies, and it had some fun and warm moments.
We got to bed early tonight after prayers and reading. Mom is sleeping on the couch, tissues at the ready and sleeping easier with some fever reducing meds that help you sleep. Maddie and I read some more from Discworld tonight, that adventure moving along nicely. It was a good day. Cold though!
