We have some updates to do, but today was largely about this morning's service, which you can see above taken upstairs to the main sanctuary. There was a prayer service for each of the kids, and Madison went through the line with the others, where all the pastors prayed for each child. KidPak was shortened downstairs to accommodate this, and the service went really well.
As is the tradition each year, we gave the kids something for school, something small to carry along with them each day and remind them of a scripture. The scripture of late has been Joshua 1:9, which says,
"Be strong and brave.
Do not be afraid.
Do not
lose hope.
I am
the Lord your God.
I will be
with you everywhere you go.”
Each student went home with a mechanical pencil that says that, although Madison went home with a few more. She likes the pencils. All the kids got bookmarks too!
Daddy came up with the ideas for eight different bookmarks, you can see four of them above. On the back of each bookmark is our scripture again. The KP Cat is there on the left, along with some Lisa Frank, our Heroes in the next one, and of course the upcoming series "The Spirit Awakens" is on the one to the right. But I'm especially proud of the one that looks like a synth wave design. I sort of combined a lot of elements for that one, and it looks like a notebook cover from the 80's. I did a few other synthwave designs, or retrowave if you want to call it that. These ideas for graphics have been coming back for well over a year now, a cycle that is seeing us all suddenly into 70's and 80's graphics, clothing and design. By my calculations, grunge will be returning in about four or five years, so I'd best start unpacking all our plaid clothing again.
Anyway, we got home and the rest of the day was spent at home, largely. We had spaghetti, always delicious, and then Daddy was off to the library to pick up a book, "The Carnivorous Carnival," as well as drop off the old one. Madison was working on her first homework assignment, a short essay/letter about herself called a "mathography." It's called that because there's a bit of Madison's history with math being told within the essay, based on guided questions. She spent a little while writing that, and then a bit of time practicing her piano for tomorrow. She'll meet a new teacher tomorrow, a student teacher under the tutelage of Mrs. Pam at Funderful World of Music. Classes start for piano and martial arts this week, all at 5:30 each day. We'll see how it goes with the schedule, but already we'll be saving a bit of money this year, versus the ballet investments. Again, it was Madison who made the choice, and she's still excited about martial arts.
Tonight, we watched the last "Thor" movie, and it was fun. It's odd watching that with the context of what happens next in "Infinity War," but it's still an enjoyable movie, once you get past the complete disregard/obliteration of any other Thor characters that have been in the series thus far.
We went to bed later tonight, and started our new book, plus the devotional and prayers. School is back tomorrow, but we're sleeping in a little bit too. It was a nice, quiet weekend, and we're looking for a nice, quiet week at school.
