It was like that scene out of "The Money Pit," where a large squadron of people came riding in to the neighborhood, armed with ladders and implements of destruction. Their goal: to dismantle our roof. And... by the end of the day, give us a good case of the shingles. To that end, they met their goal. But for a few moments this morning, Mommy and Daddy were feeling like there was a zombie outbreak outside the house. Inside, we went about our business carefully watching the the windows as shadows passed by and a loud, incessant banging came from above. Would they get in? There were all around the house, banging, clanging, scraping. Did we just hear a groan and a demand for brains?
No, we didn't. Madison saw them working on the roof as well, but only when she got home from school. By that time, the roof was nearly done. It's all down to a science with these roofing companies, who can do pretty much all of this in a day. There's still a bit left to do tomorrow, so there's a dumpster in our driveway right now. Daddy told Madison we'd be driving that to school in the morning.
Madison had tennis again today, as well as a lot of homework. We're trying to squeeze in a lot of piano and writing assignments today so that she doesn't have to do them all tomorrow - that's when we have speech therapy and a special school night event. So Madison had even more to do, and this pretty much took all of her time - outside of eating dinner, of course. She filled out Valentine's Day cards. Yes, the big day is approaching, so we pulled out the old Valentine's Day cards from downstairs and let Madison choose from the huge selection. We have Frozen, Power Puff Girls, Godzilla, Herbie the Love Bug, Brave, Avengers, Star Wars, Spongebob, Spider-Man, and a whole lot more. We generally get these after Valentine's Day when the cards are 50% off or more, and save them for the next year. And in case there is an apocalypse, we're completely ready for Valentine's Day for the next forty years without having to go to a department store. We're prepared, you see. If the radiation level is okay, we can go out with ease and deliver high quality Valentine's Day cards with pictures of Jimmy Neutron on them, or even dinosaurs playing basketball. What a pleasant day that will be, each February 14th! Our surviving neighbors, the ones who still have a roof, will emerge from their converted bomb shelter basements, dressed in their leather Mad Max apocalypse gear - and there inside what is left of their mailbox will be a small Valentine's Day card from Bubbles, just wishing everyone a swell day!
There was KidPak tonight, which went well. There was Easter work also, which saw progress. And there was a huge meeting about Summer Xtreme - that's only a few months away! We didn't have time for any KidPak plans for the apocalypse, but we'll get to that next week, I'm sure.
