The Year of the Louse

And once again, we get another letter from the school about someone in Madison's class having lice.  This has not been reported as much here on the blog - we did do an exclusive feature the first time it happened.  But since that time, over and over again, we've been getting notifications and warnings about head lice.  Madison's hair is a natural target for such predators.  Of course she keeps it pulled back.  And yes, it is shorter now, so there's not as much of a target as there used to be.  Still, as any parent will attest, the cleansing process is an enormous pain.  Madison had them earlier, and then again a little later - although this was quickly discovered and dealt with.  Still, there's the special shampoo and the intricate combing process with a fine tooth comb.  Literally, we're going over this with a fine tooth comb.  It's just an expression of speech usually, but we actually literally use a fine tooth comb!  Lately, Mommy has been using defensive measures:  a shampoo that repels lice.  Or, at least it makes Madison's hair less attractive to lice.  This may have been our saving grace this week - it breaks her heart to miss a day of school.  For example, last night at midnight, we gave Madison some cough medicine.  Once again, she thought it was time to get up and go to school.  She was up and ready to go at midnight, looking for her clothing to get changed into.  It didn't take as much convincing this time around that it was in fact midnight, and that we'd be sure to wake her up for school.

Sadly, there was not much else to talk about today!  I will report the days' events nonetheless.  The weather was nicer, and in fact warmer.  Although another arctic front is due to come in by week's end.  Will this signal a last ditch effort to bring us some snow?  It was a year ago this week that there was a pretty significant snowstorm, the second of the two big storms of 2014.  This year, again, not a flurry.  Up north, they are suffering and sick of it all.  Here, we didn't have one flurry.  Maybe that will change soon, but we're not so sure - and the clock is ticking on winter...

Easter Auditions were tonight, and once again Daddy sat at the judge's table, all the way on one end, like Simon from American Idol.  It went well, although many of the people that appeared for the audition we just saw less than five months ago in the same drawn-out sort of audition process.  The difference this time is that we didn't have a script to give them - that's still in the works, as the old script never really had a chance, apparently.  But this new one should be okay.  Daddy is not terribly enthusiastic about it, but there's no mistaking the power of telling any story from the Bible, so there should be several good moments there.  And, there are a few ideas from the original script that still survived.  Those might turn out okay.  One thing is certain:  we have a long way to go on Easter.

Daddy got home in time for his weekly "Agent Carter" fix with Mommy - but not in time to say goodnight to Madison.  Fortunately, we did get to spend some time together at piano practice this afternoon.  It was good, and Madison is quick to identify notes on the scale that Daddy cannot identify at this point.  The bass notes are the ones that I don't have down yet, but Madison has that little system in place, and can call them out in a hurry.  Faster than the other students, in fact.

Not to say she's the best in the class though.  They are all at about the same level, which makes it good for a uniform growth to take place.  So far, we've only lost one student - I think he's simply fallen back a year to try again.  But everyone else is doing well playing notes, although it is funny watching all of us try a new song for the first time.  Winter Wonderland's clues, by the way, are balls, ladders, tightrope, and a maze.  The three of us are still puzzling over this one, trying to figure out where the music class is going for a their special trip.  Last year we went to the Gainesville Civic Center to see a magician, and the year before that we went to a pool at Bethesda (didn't see any angels there).  So where is it this year?  We don't know, but we'll find out soon!

Great news today with Mommy.  This medication seems to be helping her stomach, coating the areas where there is wear and tear.  She has to take these before bed, and an hour before eating. But the end result is something good:  no more really bad pains for her lately.  Hopefully we'll see some healing too!
