The drive down to Florida started earlier today, although not first thing in the morning. We had a few visits to make, especially one to fill our Sodapalooza cup. In fact, we filled that up about three times on the way down.
But the other place we got a drink was the Florida Welcome Center. This is a traditional stop for us, and one of the first things you have to do here is get free orange juice. It's mandatory! Afterwards, Madison loves interacting with the different displays, and getting the brochures of all sorts of places we'll be going to, or thinking about going to.
And after a visit to the restrooms, it's out to the front area, where the animal footprints are. Here, Madison puts her own feet in the animal footprints. And she takes notice of all the palm trees. When I was young, that was like an indictor that you were really on vacation - it isn't a vacation until you see palm trees. That's the case for Madison, who looks for them along the road, and shouts it out when she sees them.
Mommy and Daddy were listening to "Peter and the Star Catchers" on the way down - we got about half-way through that book. We just got it at the library the other day, a perfect thing to help pass the time on the journey down. Madison had her DVD player in. She watched "Barbie the Island Princess," an older Barbie movie we found for $5.00 at Target recently. This was a good investment, a surprise that we wanted Madison to wait to watch until we made our trip down. So she was pretty excited to plug this in. And then the usual movies afterwards, "Frozen," and "The Lego Movie." She looks up when we see the clock tower in Perry, and after that Florida line, that's when the storming started. Lots of dark, ominous clouds in the sky - but we managed to weave through the storms, and make it to our happy destination.
Nana and Ba-Ba had a big dinner for us, which is one of those things that Nana and Ba-Ba do: have a big dinner for us. They are uber careful to keep Mommy safe from her allergies, and always have way too much food. But it's all good!
