The Magician Put on a Magic Show

Daddy got home tonight and got to see a magical moment.  It's these little moments that put a smile on your face, like seeing Mommy and Madison read together off of the computer.  Mommy discovered some reading programs on the computer - reading games that help kids learn to say words and read sentences.  Slowly but surely, Madison was reading word after word put on the computer - it helped that each one would light up in red as she was supposed to say it.  She got about half the words without having any help, which was completely awesome.

One of the other games we played was a refrigerator magnet type of game, where she could click on words and drag them to the center of the screen to create her own sentences.  Above you can see the results - it's her first written story!  Of course, she had to use the words from the list below, but between she and Mommy, the two put together something cute and quick.  The program is good because you can use the mouse to pass over words, and a voice will read to you your story.

the young princess saw it.
she loved it!

Tonight we had piano practice again, attempting the song "Butterfly" with two hands.  It's been a challenge, but Madison keeps at it - she's been promised a certain video game (Lego Batman 2) if she can get that and two other songs just right.  Until then, there's always Mombucks, and the games we already have.  The end result was a night of playing "Lego Star Wars," which she really loved.

Our car trips can be funny.  We had one where Daddy and Mommy couldn't tell a made-up story for her.  SO, her solution was simple:  she would tell the story.  And it didn't matter if Mommy and Daddy were listening or not!  She told a story of Thor, and just made up things until we got home.  As we got home, she announced loudly, "THE END."  It must have been a happy ending!

Speaking of which, Ye-Ye, Nana, Aunt Shain, David Austen, Jonathan and Hannah were victims of a massive rain storm in the middle of the night.  We know this was a bad one because we ourselves were up late in the night as the thunder shook the entire house.  It was quite a storm!  This is their first encounter with rain, but it was a huge one - and it left them absolutely drenched.  This is why they've decided to cut things a little short - they're going to try and make it tomorrow to Neel's Gap.  That's where Daddy is going to pick them up, hopefully.  There's no shame in hiking as far as they did along the Appalachian Trail.  We'll make the calculations later about how far they went - it's probably somewhere around 35-40 miles in the middle of the summer.  They're having an incredible adventure, and we'll no doubt be seeing some great images of their journey soon - and hearing some wonderful stories.
