Pumpkin Patch 2009

The sun was shining and the temperature was nice and cool.  It was a perfect October day to head to the pumpkin patch!

We visited Burt's Pumpkin Farm again this year, and packed ourselves a picnic before we went.  Mommy had a pumpkin t-shirt on, and dressed up Madison in a very festive outfit which you can see in the movie above.  Daddy wore orange too, and together we made the drive through the North Georgia Mountains to Pickens County.  The leaves on the trees were just starting to change in color, and many were falling on the road in front of us, blown about by the slight breeze of the day.

As we pulled up in the parking lot, Madison's eyes grew wider in anticipation - she could see the huge field of orange in front of her.  Walking through the entrance, she grabbed one of the miniature pumpkins, which she carried with her the rest of the day.  She placed it in her pumpkin purse and walked out onto the field and looked around in amazement!  Look at all the pumpkins!

Together, we started off wandering amongst the oversized pumpkins.  They made Madison look so small, but some made Mommy and Daddy look small too.  These pumpkins were huge!  Madison wanted a ride in the wheelbarrow to the smaller pumpkin area, and that's where she found her dream pumpkin.  It was a smaller one, but it still had a little weight to it.  But the thing is, she wanted that one.  So she carried it pretty far across the field of other pumpkins until she could put it in the wheelbarrow.

Meanwhile, Daddy found a larger one for carving later on this month.  Madison thought it was just right too, and she wanted to hop in the wheelbarrow with it.  As Daddy gave her a ride around the pumpkins, Mommy handed her certain ones so she could feel the textures.  Some gourds were bumpy - and other items were smoother:  like the butternut squash that Mommy picked out for making soup with later!  Yummy!

Madison loved tromping around in the field of orange pumpkins.  As we lined up to pay for the ones we'd take home, we also bought a few tickets for a hay ride.  This really got her excited!

We stood in line, and then piled into a large trailer just filled with hay.  As soon as other children and parents climbed in with us, we were off for a ride over the landscape.  Madison stayed close to Mommy, but soon found herself peeking over the edge to see the pumpkin patches and displays set up for the children.  One display featured large talking pumpkins, and another display had mannequins picking banjos inside a covered bridge.

It was a fun ride, and as soon as we were done, we crossed another covered bridge to sit down in a picnic area for a quiet meal by the river.  Mommy packed us a great lunch, and the three of us sat there together munching as we looked over the river to the field of orange pumpkins across the way.

It was a simply marvelous day.  Madison kept her mini-pumpkin close to her all the way home.  As soon as she got inside the house, she raced into the playroom in order to find her magic wand.  With a tap on the top of the pumpkin, she looked to Mommy, and that's when we realized Madison was remembering a scene from Cinderella where a pumpkin turned into a carriage!

     Bippity Boppity Boo!
