Well, to begin with, this was a fairly ordinary December day. You can see above that Jingle Bell the elf had been captured, along with his reindeer friend Snowflake. The two of them were put in cages by apes from the Planet of the Apes. He was quite upset about the whole thing. When Attar shoved him in the cage, Jingle Bell shouted, "Get your hands off me, you darn dirty ape!" And a little bit later on, "It's a madhouse! A madhouse!"
So we sent Madison off to school, and we were actually working on a few things here related to tonight's production. It first started to snow on the way back from school. It started snowing, and just didn't stop. We didn't realize at the time it would be as big as it was. We just stayed home a bit, watching "The Preacher's Wife," as we wrapped some, and worked on costuming for tonight's production.
It wasn't long before we got word that the kids were coming home from school.
It was still snowing. December's snow tastes better than January's. The grass was covered, but the roads were starting to get covered too. We had a feeling as if they bus got Madison home just in time. Because it was getting heavier, and heavier, and heavier. Seriously, it was supposed to be just one inch.
Madison and Daddy got out there and started making a snowman right away. This is Pedro. The snow rolled up like a carpet off of the front lawn, and Daddy was thinking that was about it, because there was a lull in the snow, and we had just rolled up a good portion of the snow off the lawn. Surely that was it, and we'd be content to have made a snowman. And besides, we'll be going to that Christmas production tonight, right?
Wrong. We got at least eight inches of snow. It just didn't stop. There was a brief pause, but it started right up again, and even into the next morning it was still snowing. It made for some beautiful pictures, as you can see here. The above is one of my favorite pictures of our house, ever. Snow just makes everything look so much better!
This is our front room tree, and the wreath outside, and snow beyond that. It was a beautiful night, with snow still falling and Christmas lights on houses all up and down our street. It was a White Christmas, something we hardly ever see here. We had one a few years ago, snow on Christmas Day. Mommy pointed out that this was just as good, seeing all the lights and decorations with the snow on the ground. Snow at Christmas time is something else.
And as you can see, we got a lot of it. Look at that sombrero bend. This was after we spent all that time rolling up the snow, and putting the sombrero on. Afterwards, it started up again with the snow, and just wouldn't let up!
It was a Winter Wonderland outside, the roads completely covered. You dan see out our front door here - there's a street somewhere out there. As you might suspect, the Christmas production for tonight was cancelled. Many, many things were cancelled. This came from nowhere. No one was expecting this!
Forsyth County was covered in a blanket of white, and we were just gazing out the window over and over again. Madison and Daddy spent a lot of time playing out there, with Madison tossing a stunning amount of snowballs at Daddy. This is her thing: throwing snowballs. If it were a sport that you could get paid to do, this would be her calling in life. The rest of us see a winter wonderland, whereas Madison sees an frozen arsenal of doom, ready to launch!
Here's just one more picture of the house tonight, looking so pretty with the Christmas decorations, the snow and the lights. It's just like a Christmas card. In fact, the entire neighborhood looks like a Christmas card. Neighbors were out walking around in shock - this was not forecasted properly at all. Kids and families were gleefully making snowmen - our little section of street has at least six snowmen on it. You could hear screams of delight in the distance, no doubt sledders and snowball fights.
Inside, we were watching Christmas movies and making a gingerbread house too. Here's this year's gingerbread house, courtesy of our elf. We were watching "Home Alone" and "Jingle All the Way" tonight, and watching out the window as it still just kept on snowing!
But all we can talk about is the snow today. Talk about a perfect Christmas season sort of day. It was an unexpected blessing from the skies, one that caused us all to stop and be together as a family. And it was just perfect.
