LEGO Wednesday

Tonight we had KidPak again, and Daddy made this worksheet above to help kids design their own LEGO mini figure.  Sort of like we did this past weekend with the ginormous one.  Anyway, in the meantime, the idea is that the kids get to decide what kind of face to put on this mini-figure.  And similarly, we get to decide each day what kind of face we'll put on.  Will we be grateful, or full of praise?  Or grumpy and self-centered?  It was an interesting lesson.  We also talked about three LEGO bricks:

Just three LEGO bricks offer so many possibilities.  Don’t believe us?  Consider this:  Three eight-stud bricks can be combined in an amazing 1,060 ways!  Just three.  But what if you have six LEGO 2X4 bricks?  Hold on to your hats, because this number is impressive.  Six of those eight-stud LEGO bricks can be combined in an astonishing 915 million different ways!
The point is simply this.  What may not look like much to begin with can offer surprising results.  A seed doesn’t look like much at all.  Jesus spoke of a mustard seed in a similar way.  He said in Mark 4:31-32, “It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. But when you plant the seed, it grows. It becomes the largest of all garden plants. Its branches are so big that birds can rest in its shade.”
In Zechariah 4:10, the Lord asks us, “For who has despised the day of small things?”  He understands it best:  what seems like something small and insignificant can turn into something marvelous.  All it takes is unfailing faith and love, and just like you, it will grow to become something very special.

It was a good night, anyway, one that kept our LEGO theme going pretty strong.  It's had a surprisingly large amount of different ideas coming from it.  I sort of underestimated what we could do with it, and discovered a whole lot of fun along the way.  It's been a great series.  And a popular one too - many, many kids have been submitting their pictures with LEGO creations to our email, and we've been showing them during service, and on social media too.

Today Madison had her enrichment class after school.  She's still doing art classes, and within these classes, she's creating art for the yearbook this year.  Meanwhile, Daddy is still taking pictures for the yearbook as well.  For example, tomorrow Daddy is going to be snapping photos of the kids running for the Fund Run.  You'll see some of those pictures here, especially the ones of Madison.

Mommy got together three pictures today, three artistic creations for us to submit to the Quinlan Arts Center here in Gainesville.  It's a membership exhibition, and since we have a family membership, the three of us can submit one picture each.  So all three of us should have a piece of art in the same gallery.  That's coming soon - we'll show pictures of our stuff hanging in an art show.  Should be fun!

Madison aced her science test today, and we couldn't have been more proud.  She and Daddy studied a lot last night, talking about inherited traits, genes, and different kinds of cells, plant and animal cells.  There wasn't a discussion yet about a Punnett squares, which were always fun.  We might make up a few joke versions before it is all said and done.

Mommy had these delicious Philly cheesesteaks for dinner tonight, and those were just perfect before going back to the church.  Madison stayed home with Mommy, but before Daddy left, Madison told us she made the High Flyer list again.  Next week, she'll get her next High Flyer award, something she's gotten once a year for the past five years.  This is the last one for Chestatee... sniff, sniff.  But we're really proud of her.  She's been doing really great at school, and we couldn't be happier with her.

Tonight, we hit the bed a little quicker.  We've had some full days around here, with lots to do.  Daddy has been talking about Christmas and January's Fasting campaign too, brainstorming with others at the church.  It's an honor to have any voice at all in such big decisions.  The next few months are going to be fantastic!
