Pirate Week

First and foremost, today is 9-11.  Which always brings to mind a more solemn frame of mind.  Social media is filled with reminders of where we all were that morning, and the war we've been more actively fighting against ever since.  Time has gone by.  We're getting more and more distant from disaster, and as hard as it is to believe, some folks are in fact forgetting.

Madison knows about the day, but for children her age, it will be difficult to fully comprehend just how big a day it was.  We call it Patriot Day now, which sort of puts a more positive spin on the date itself.  But for those of us who were alive that day, I don't think we could ever first call it Patriot Day. To us, it will always be 9-11.

Anyway, moving on:  being Friday, we could stay up later.  And being that we have been so into these Jack Sparrow books lately, Madison wanted to watch the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, which is of course the best one.  So we watched it together, with the usual big tub of popcorn.  Although we did make sure we did her homework first - speech, piano, etc.

The weather is getting cooler outside, and fall is on the way.  It's perfectly lovely outside, in fact.  We're starting a new series this weekend, so with that said there has been a lot of work on the new set - we're building a time machine on our stage.  It looks great, this huge mechanical contraption set within an old library from a hundred years ago or so.  It is somewhat like an HG Wells meets Dr. Who setting, which is great.

The message is already written, and the video clips captured.  So all that is left are the printed materials and so forth.  It never gets old getting a booklet that you yourself have written.  There's this deep sense of joy and pride getting a printed book - and seeing boxes and boxes of them - and it is one that you yourself have written.  Recently, Daddy has written another one for the team that visits the hospital.  It's a book about healing that he's decided to call "An Atmosphere of Healing."  It will be hopefully something encouraging for those who are facing a more long-term healing process.

Tonight, Madison was all decked out in pirate gear.  She was dressed as Angelica, she said - although Angelica is not in this particular movie.  She even brought her sword down to the livingroom to watch the movie, ready to join the pillaging and plundering.

She should be old enough to see the fifth pirates movie when it comes out in theaters, sometime next year I think.  The second and third movies might be a little too dark for her at present, but this one was pretty good - and the fourth one might be okay too.  We're launching off a week of pirate movies, of course all in preparation of the big day next Saturday:  Talk Like a Pirate Day.  This should be pirate week - I'll go ahead and say it.  Doesn't it make sense?  Just one day is not enough.  They give sharks a whole week - I say we give pirates a whole week too!

Arrrr!
