Fourth of July/Birthday/Father's Day/Graduation

Happy Fourth of July!  Today, we celebrated the Fourth, and Father's Day, and David Austen's Graduation, and Madison's Birthday, and Hannah's birthday, and any other holiday we could think of at the time.  It's just that we hadn't gotten a chance to be together in some time, so this worked out that we could just celebrate all of the above at a nice little gathering today.  We decorated the house with bunting, flags, and Captain America items.  And Mommy got lots of food together - lots and lots of food.  It was Daddy's biggest grilling of the year, getting all kinds of burgers and hot dogs heated up for the big meal.  Soon everyone was here, and we were having a very pleasant afternoon together.

Minus Uncle Dave.  He wasn't feeling well enough to attend, although things aren't quite that bad for him currently.  It will be good to have he and Mommy talk, as Mommy has been through the entire process before.  It's a difficult journey.  No one said it would be easy.

Nana and Ye-Ye got Madison a gift that she just absolutely loved.  It was Anna's dress, from "Frozen."  Madison had to try it on right away!

So now we have an Anna and an Elsa dress.  If only we could get back that Olaf costume, I think we'd be set for something.  Maybe "Frozen 2."  Anyway, it was a nice gathering, one that Mommy worked extensively to set up.  We had the lemonade, the sweet tea, the mandatory macaroni salad, the potato salad, the ears of corn, and so on.  It was a huge meal!

Afterwards, we said our goodbyes, and rested on the front porch for a bit.  Madison was antsy though:  she wanted to go to the pool.  So despite being dead tired, Daddy took her down to the pool for an hour, where we were both properly chlorinated for a time.  It was fun swimming around, but honestly, the water was a bit on the chilly side.  The weather outside was overcast today, and that kept things cool - there were plenty of passing rain showers to spoil some plans, although ours were never interrupted.  We swam without incident for an hour, and then went back home to hear the barrage of fireworks and firecrackers throughout the night.

Seriously, the neighborhood is like a war zone.  It's all around you, the popping and boom, the crackle and whistling.  You can see the colors light the sky, the clouds tinted with reds, greens and whites.  Madison and Daddy went outside with our sparklers, but only did a few this year:  Madison got a small burn from a stray spark, and that sort of made her nervous around the sparklers this year.  No matter - it was late, and there was reading to do:  we are now on our way with the next book, "Princess Labelmaker to the Rescue!"

We also watched some stuff on Youtube tonight, starting with the impressive Fourth of July fireworks display at the Magic Kingdom.  And as usual, what happens next is you wind up watching another related thing - but these were related to Star Wars Weekends, which as you remember, we missed.  So we caught a few different things that were recorded, the "Symphony in the Stars" fireworks display, the  Star Wars motorcade and parade of the 501st, and about five or six other special events.  We enjoyed watching them - maybe next time we'll get to see this stuff in person, including Darth's Mall.  But we're okay with not getting to see them this last time.  Or, at least I keep telling myself that!

Anyway, after reading, it was time for bed.  For all of us.  We're getting an early night's rest tonight, as we were pretty tired from setting things up.  And tomorrow is church again, with a fun service planned around the final Space Camp message, "Go!"

Speaking of which, it's time for me to ... "Go!"
