Yes, that's a Powerpuff Girl there - and yes, it's ice cream. Regardless of the temperature outside (somewhere around 50 degrees), we went out to greet the ice cream truck touring the neighborhood. Inspired by our actions, other kids joined us - it was almost as if we were willing warmer weather into existence! Sure, it's less than twenty degrees from freezing out here, but on the bright side, we won't have to worry about our ice creams melting too quickly out here!
It's Monday, which means Mommy and Daddy had a little time off. We did some resting, and also some eating out to celebrate Mommy's upcoming birthday. We each had a tasty steak at Texas Roadhouse, and then did a bit of grocery shopping, scurrying back to the warmth of our house. It's not like it is freezing cold outside, but it is cooler than it probably should be outside, considering the fact that it is May. One more month of this will put our pool plans at Summer Xtreme in jeopardy. Imagine trying to swim in anything like this, or even ten degrees warmer than this!
And the rain continues too. We did some practicing today for the upcoming recital (which is this Saturday!). One of the songs Madison sings is "Home on the Range," which of course has a line, "where the skies are not cloudy all day." We can really relate to that sort of dream, can't we?
Meanwhile, Nana and Ye-Ye are across the clouds, high above any rain, wind and weather. They're finally on their flight to Ireland - one originally scheduled for yesterday. Mechanical problems postponed it by one day, but the airline gave them a night at a nearby hotel, and a dinner too. Twenty-four hours later, they're off and going, and probably already on dry land (hopefully dry land, the sort of weather they have over there is pretty similar to what we're experiencing here). We prayed for them tonight before bed, and will continue to do so over the next few weeks. It's a great adventure they're having, probably the biggest one they've had since China in 2008.
Today we went back to the library after school. Daddy wanted Madison to take a nap, so the trick was taking our time on the drive there - and sure enough, she was asleep in the back seat. So rather than arrive at the library, we took a detour, driving on 400 north, nearly all the way to Dahlonega. Madison got about a half hour of sleep there, which was good - additionally, she went to bed early tonight. She's got some major catching up to do with her sleep, as we had a new series this weekend, and some time with Nana and Ba-Ba.
At the library, we picked up a squillion books. Actually, it was more like eighteen or so. The summer reading program starts pretty soon (on May 24th), so Daddy was hoping to get a little bit of a head start with Madison. Also, we found some "graphic novels" there, which is basically a nice way of saying "big comic books." They're of vintage Disney comics, featuring Scrooge McDuck and Mickey Mouse too. Those will be fun going through.
Tonight before bed, it was time for Madison's first episode of "Pinky and the Brain." Daddy got this for Mommy for Easter as part of a basket theme, and we're just getting around to watching it tonight. It was fun - everyone enjoyed it after the busy afternoon. And then... it was time for bed. That's where Madison is now. And I'm here now typing this. But not for long. That ice cream truck... I got myself an ice cream too. It's sitting in the freezer, calling my name....
