Mommy, Nana and Ba-Ba went to Goodwill today, and another thrift store as well. The end result was a fashion show for Madison. She got a lot of new clothing today, including this little number you see above. It's from India - Madison looks a little Bollywood. Mommy showed her how to do the fashion walk, down her imaginary catwalk. She stops, poses, turns, poses and walks back each time to applause from Daddy and Ba-Ba. You can almost hear the cameras snapping all around as she struts her stuff!
Today was Ye-Ye's birthday, of course - Madison called this morning at about 7:00 am or so, and started singing the Happy Birthday song. He and Nana are busy packing for a big trip to Ireland, one they'll be starting on Sunday with a trip to the airport. They'll be gone for about a week and a half, off across the pond. That said, they're getting ready in every possible way, nervous and thrilled about a new adventure. We'll be praying for them, favor and protection.
Madison brought home her first yearbook today. Her picture is in there about five times or so, mostly all on this one page dedicated to her class. She's in her 50's outfit, and seen having fun with other class activities. The book is nice, and crammed with lots of tiny little pictures! Madison's school picture was okay, and although the pose was okay, the quality of the set-up was good for all the kids. It's her first yearbook, which is neat. I don't think we have any for us from kindergarten. Daddy's first yearbook remembrance goes to about 7th grade or so. Later on, Daddy would be on Yearbook Staff, which was a neat experience. We even flew out to Dallas, Texas, to see where the books were published. Of course, the things this high schooler remembers most were the trips to the Hard Rock Cafe there, and eating Belgium Waffles on top of a skyscraper in downtown Dallas. Oh, and Boyd Johnson almost missing the trip because he was late meeting us at 4:00 in the morning. Oh, and I just now remembered the trip back home. Turbulence and storms galore - it was terrifying for me. That one trip made a huge, lasting impression on me with airplanes. You can see how some folks get so scared. I wasn't screaming about a man on the wing of a plane or anything, but I was pretty frightened. We tried about four descents from what I remember, and I had no idea how to equalize the pressure in my head at the time. I've since learned, but at the time I had this pressure in my head, and the whole plane was rocking back and forth. Since that time, Daddy has been nervous on planes - which is sort of ironic considering his grandfather was a Pan Am pilot.
ANYWAY, it's also another big anniversary today - one that almost slipped our minds. It was today, five years ago, that we first saw Madison's face. We've taken a squillion pictures of Madison since then, including the one above. But May 2, 2008, was the first time we got to ever see her face in a photo. It was in an email that we received - and that's when everything changed.
I've posted that email here before on this blog. But here's a fun email I sent out that day in 2008, just before getting the one with the photo and information:

On pins and needles here...I think this afternoon I’m about to get a picture of my daughter!!!
Wow, how weird does that sound?

It doesn't sound that weird now, actually. I can't imagine a time where we didn't have her in the house. In fact, it feels kind of odd when she's away at school, and the house is quiet.
Today, Daddy had lunch with her again at school. We made a deal again, so Daddy showed up to do lunch. We got up on stage, and it was nice. While Mommy was away with her parents, we ate lunch with one her friends (and her mother), and I got to see her face again, and let it sink in a bit. Five years! We get old so fast, don't we?
