Today, the snow finally started falling at around 2:00 - and believe me, we were looking for it outside the window! We were still taking care of some of the Christmas decorations inside the house (namely the tree!), and watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on the television set when Mommy first noticed the flurries start to descend from the skies.
It wasn't really sticking enough, but it wasn't cold enough yet either. Which is sort ironic, as it has been frigid cold all week. Tonight, the snow is still falling and the temperature is supposed to drop to 19 degrees. We'll see how much more of the white stuff we get.
Fortunately, we got just enough today to have some fun. Daddy and Madison went out into the weather and started frolicking right away. If it's snowing, you have to frolic. It's funny how instinctive this is, but Madison opened her mouth and immediately started trying to catch the snowflakes on her tongue! Daddy caught some on his tongue too. These snowflakes today were just the right flavor, too (as you may have heard, those December snowflakes just aren't ripe enough yet!).
We shuffled over to Nana's house, and soon she and Asaph were outside with us making snowballs. This was a new concept for Madison, although she did make a few last year on one occasion. To begin with, the purpose of snowballs were to throw on the concrete driveway and watch them splat. But it didn't take long for Madison to realize that these snowballs can be hurled at people too! Nana helped Madison build up the snowballs, and soon she was chasing us around, throwing them and screaming if someone actually decided to throw one back at her.
One of Daddy's favorite pitchers retired this week, Randy Johnson. But as long as we have an ace like Madison, we don't have to worry about getting cold outside, because she can throw the heat. Look at her, hurling that ice as she's running down a target (me). It's like she's about to peg a baserunner! We had some fun throwing for a while after Nana went inside, and spent a lot of time finding all the surfaces that had snow to build on, like the car hoods, plastic outdoor playsets, and even the driveway. Madison was having a great time!
But soon, it was time to head in. We were wet and cold, that's for sure. But, we had just gotten inside the door when we spied Ye-Ye outside, just arriving home for work!
Uh-oh! "Quick, get all your stuff back on, let's ambush Ye-Ye!"
He had just stepped out of his garage when he spotted Madison racing towards him! She had that mischievous look about her, and a fresh snowball (courtesy of Daddy). Soon there'd be another small skirmish in the front yard. The snowballs were flying! This snowball fight seemed a little more civilized at times - almost like a western draw. Madison and Ye-Ye would step away three paces, and then count to three: "One...two...three...throw!"
It wasn't anything huge, but the snow was fun for Madison. We got her inside not long after this, where she quickly got a nice warm bath and had a good hot meal. She and Mommy had a massive pillow fight in the bedroom, and I guarantee you that Madison will go down pretty easy tonight. She's had an exciting day!
