KidPak Christmas Prep

Maddie's big gift from Santa Buc-ee this morning was a pair of Buc-ee's pajamas!  She was wearing these a little later on, nice comfy pjs for a winter's night.  It's been a quiet day.

Hey, check out the sea monkeys, all getting ready for the Christmas season too.  They've got their little aquarium decorated with algae and moss while swirling around like festive shrimpy snowflakes!

Today Maddie was working on her puzzle a bit.  We had a lot of visitors outside on the back porch, a whole lot of birds, including some new cowbirds dropping by for a visit.  At one point, we were playing Mario Party just for giggles.  It came down to the last moment, as Mario Party generally does.  I'm not really any good at the game, so yeah, Maddie came out ahead.

At least there was Christmas coffee as a consolation.  That, and "the Grinch!"  Yes, we revisited our Grinch play from two years ago, re-watching the big production we did a few years ago and wow... I couldn't believe all teh work and effort that went into that, and how well it came out.  It was pretty cool!

Tonight we were at taekwondo one more time, and that was good for Maddie.  I finished up the script for Sunday tonight while watching Maddie help train younger students.  It should be kind of fun - we'll see!

CUE TRACK:  1 CHRISTMAS

CUE SLIDE:  “LIGHT OF THE WORLD”

NARRATOR:  “Merry Christmas, KidPak!  Not long ago in the fields near Bethlehem, there were shepherds looking after their sheep on a silent night…”

SHEP:  “Well it would be silent if you’d ever stop talking!”

NARRATOR:  “I suppose that’s my cue.  Stay tuned, KidPak because something big is about to happen here at KidPak Adventures:  Light of the World!”

BRO:  “Wow, that was dramatic.”

SHEP:  “Bro, the narrator is right. I’m feeling like God’s got something big going on.”

BRO:  “Same.  Last time I felt this way, there was that big sheep stampede.”

SHEP:  “Gnarly!  That’s when Hezemiah got totally thrashed!”

BRO and SHEP laugh at the memory.

SHEP:  “Still, if God was doing something big tonight, wouldn’t it be great to play just a tiny part in it?”

BRO:  “Totally.  I’d be honored just to wash someone’s sandals.”

SHEP:  “Oh yeah?  Well, I’d eat them.”

BRO:  “What?  What would you eat a sandal for?”

SHEP:  “I’m just saying I’m willing to do anything.”

BRO:  “Would you eat one with super hot sauce?”

SHEP:  (joinging in) “And pickles on top of it?”

BRO:  “And chocolate syrup?”

SHEP:  “Totally!”

BRO:  “Righteous!  Righteous!  Let’s go eat some sandals!”

DONKEY:  (offstage)  “Can I just get a break from carrying you?  My back is killing me!”

MARY:  (offstage)  “Okay donkey.  I’ll walk for a while.”

SHEPHERDS stop short.

BRO:  “Someone’s coming this way!”

CUE TRACK:  2 CHRISTMAS B

MARY, JOSEPH and DONKEY enter STAGE CENTER, moving to STAGE LEFT

DONKEY:  “These legs are like totally done-zo!”

JOSEPH:  “I suppose a small break would be okay.  But we have to get to Bethlehem.”

BRO and SHEP look at each other, and then start laughing.

MARY:  “What’s so funny?”

BRO:  “You’re heading to Bethlehem?”

JOSEPH:  “Yes?”

BRO:  “You’re heading in the wrong direction.”

DONKEY:  “Cool.  Now we’re lost-er.”

MARY:  “Joseph, I told you we should have stopped to ask for directions.”

DONKEY:  “What is it with guys and asking for directions?”

JOSEPH:  (to SHEPHERDS) “We’d appreciate any help you can give.”

SHEP:  “Okay, then here goes.  Bethlehem is that way!”

SHEP points arm towards STAGE RIGHT

DONKEY:  “Are you sure?”

SHEP:  “As sure as I am that Bro here needs to use more deodorant.”

BRO:  “Not cool, Shep.  Not cool.”

MARY:  “Thank you so much for your kindness.”

JOSEPH:  “Yes, you don’t know how much you’ve helped us.”

JOSEPH and MARY gratefully hug SHEP.

DONKEY:  “All they did was point.  I’m the one having to carry Mary.”

MARY:  (to DONKEY) “Small things matter when God uses them.  We all need to be humble, and just say ‘yes.’”

SHEP:  “Dude!  God used my arm!”

BRO:  “Best Arm Moment Ever!”

SHEP:  “I’m never washing this arm again!”

BRO:  “Did you ever?”

DONKEY:  “Okay then.  Saddle up, Mary.”

MARY:  “Are you sure?”

DONKEY:  “If you can humbly carry God’s gift to the world all this way, then I’ll be honored to help with the carrying.”

JOSEPH:  (letting out a battle cry) “Let’s ride!”

CAST looks at JOSEPH, confused.

JOSEPH:  “Too aggressive?”

MARY:  “Let’s just go to Bethlehem.”

DONKEY, MARY and JOSEPH exit STAGE RIGHT

BRO:  “You think God will use us again?”

SHEP:  “Yeah, and maybe both arms this time!”

BRO:  “It sure is quiet though.”

SHEP: “Yeah, like the kind of quiet just before a sheep lets out a big burp, you know?”

LIGHTS SHIFT

CUE TRACK:  3 CHRISTMAS ANGELS

ANGEL:  (stepping out STAGE CENTER)  “What up!”

SHEPHERDS:  (frightened, dropping down low)  “Whao!”

ANGEL:  “Do not be afraid.”

BRO:  “Too late!  Dude, I almost wet my tunic!”

ANGEL:  “Behold!  I bring you good news of great joy.”

SHEPHERDS look at each other, and then hop around the stage with great joy.

SHEPHERDS:  “Woo-hoo!  Righteous!  Righteous!”

ANGEL:  “I haven’t even told you what it is yet.  Can I finish?”

BRO:  (suddenly calm)  “Oh.  Yeah.  Of course.  Go for it.”

ANGEL:  “Today in Bethlehem, a Savior has been born.  Jesus.”

BRO:  “Wait.  The Jesus?”

SHEP:  “No way!”

ANGEL:  “Way.  You’ll find the baby wrapped in strips of cloth and lying in a manger.”

SHEP:  “You mean like a food box?”

BRO:  “That is so humble, dude.”

SHEP:  “Best.  Baby.  Ever!”

ANGEL:  “This is the good news for everyone.”

ANGEL turns and walks out CENTER STAGE

BRO:  “You got that right.  Hey, Shep.  Wanna race to Bethlehem?”

SHEP:  “You know I’ll win – wait, what’s that over there at STAGE LEFT?”

BRO turns to look.

SHEP:  “Merry Christmas!”

SHEP races off STAGE RIGHT.

BRO:  “Aw man!  Every time!”

BRO exits STAGE RIGHT quickly.

NARRATOR:  “Shepherds just like this were the first to tell others about Jesus.  They may not have seemed like much, but they shared the light of the world.  You don’t have to be big.  Just willing.”

CAST:  (offstage) “Merry Christmas!”

Tonight we lit the next candle on the menorah for Hanukkah, reading our devotional too.  We read a bit before bed, and I'm pretty encouraged about the warmer forecast upcoming because I'm pretty under the weather.  Coughing since October, and antibiotics didn't seem to help.

We said our prayers tonight, and then everyone got tucked in.  Time to get some rest!
