Guy and Dolls Jr.

Tonight Maddie and I were up in Dahlonega to see our friend Ezra perform at the Holly Theater in a performance of "Guy's and Dolls Jr."  It was the end product of a two-week camp up there, where a large cast of students was working together to put together what turned out to be a pretty good production.  Neither of us had ever seen "Guys and Dolls" before, and so the whole storyline was new to us.  I recognized three songs from the play, and of course now I have a few of those stuck in my head.

It was a great time.  You can see us with Ezra here after the show, talking about the performance and congratulating him and the other cast members.  I think one super memorable moment for Maddie was the accidental slap tonight.  Yes, there was this one point where Ezra goes in for a kiss with the lead actress in the play, and of course it is scripted that she slaps him as he gets too close.  Only... she accidentally actually slapped him.  We couldn't tell at the time, but thought it looked pretty real to us.  And of course, we found out not much later that it was a real slap, and that was pretty amusing to everyone.

Ezra has been acting with us at KidPak for some time now, so it was great to go up and support him.  It was also just great to get out of the house and do something a little different.  I'm finding these plays from students are actually a lot of fun to go see.  Obviously they don't cost as much to go see either, but it's still a good bit of fun.  We got some concessions and sat up in our usual spot in the balcony.

The rest of the day was relaxing.  We did some clothing shopping for Maddie for Fourth of July, and dropping by the thrift shop, we found our Mikasa fruit-themed plate ware, and that was a big find.  We have a whole lot of back-up plates and bowls now.

There are lots of pop-up rain showers in the area, but it's been the same old story about a mystical barrier around our portion of the community.  We were heading home earlier, and amazingly, while it was a deluge at the high school and even enough rain to cause puddles at the entrance to Riverstone... our side of the neighborhood was dry.  It's an odd phenomena sometimes.

Anyway, we had a decent day today.  Mom made this tremendous breakfast in a skillet, one with sausages, egg, sautéed onions and mushrooms, and tater tots too.  And that Irish tea we have on weekends is so rich and delicious.

Maddie and I were playing LEGO Star Wars today, using our new controller that Maddie got recently.  It has an Animal Crossing theme to it, and it works really well, the two of us exploring Dragonsnake Bog in the swamps of Dagobah.  I just learned that's the name of that location.  Being a Star Wars fan all my life, I had never known this.  Anyway, it's a fun game.  I've found a glitch location at Jabba's Palace where you have this entire little crevice all to yourself, only you can't ever get out of it.  We were playing around a bit today, and Maddie was trying the original Kirby game from the 90's too, as she really likes that character in some of the more modern games.

It was a nice day today, and it was a nice evening too.  Maddie and I got to walk around downtown Dahlonega for a bit, and it was surprisingly not that crowded for the Fourth of July weekend.  The stores were all open, so we went to the general store to grab a sarsaparilla and a cotton candy flavored soda, then walk about around the courthouse, taking in the ambience.

We read tonight, of course, and we said our prayers.  Tomorrow we get up early again for church, and it should be a nice skit tomorrow, a new patriotic skit that I've written for the day.  It'll be a nice day.
