Another quiet day today. We dropped by the church earlier for some last minute details for the weekend, and while out and about thought we might as well stop by for some boba tea. Maddie was quite happy with that, as was I. We're still trying new flavors each time, and amazingly, all these boba tea places are usually pretty busy with customers.
It was hot, and the rain storms were everywhere all over north Georgia, popping up west and east and north and south of us, moving about slowly... and never stopping by over our house. Our invisible rain shield over the community has stayed strong! The thing is, we kind of want it to rain here from time to time... the end result is that I was out there watering the plants and so on tonight for a good long while. And that's okay, as it's nice to hang out in the back yard watering all the plants. The bad side of it is the mosquitoes that seem to not care about repellent or anything else you try. For some reason, this year, the mosquitoes have determined that I am in fact pretty delicious. Either that, or they're out for revenge. I have swatted so many of them now!
Maddie and I chose the movie of the night and were delighted to finally get to see "Spirited Away" again. It is easily my favorite of the Miyazaki movies, and Maddie's favorite is "My Neighbor Totoro." The theory is that the first Miyazaki movie that you see is your favorite, and that's the case in the examples above. Regardless, we're set on doing a marathon eventually. It's difficult to schedule movies though, as generally we have to pick something that Nana can endure. If you don't keep her entertained all day long, she's apt to wander around muttering, putting on shoes, taking off shoes, walking up the hill and down, pacing around outside, and then inside, and then announcing four times she's going to take a nap, and then taking a four-minute nap, and then asking over and over again "what's on the agenda?" or "is there anything special for her to do?" These phrases are banned by Mom, Maddie and I, although we'll sometimes use them just to express our frustrations or irritations. We just have to keep her entertained, and sometimes that means I have to take her for a ride somewhere. You can't just put on a television show she likes, because she won't sit down by herself to watch it - someone has to be with her. She won't read, she won't do puzzles, and many times, she won't eat what Mom prepares for meals. She'll eat fast food, of course, and cookies and candy and junk food.
It's July today, and we're still stuck in this house as if the quarantine never ended. We can't go anywhere on vacation. Mom and I can't even go out on a date, because Nana wouldn't be able to come with us. Maddie and I were about to go to the pool, but then Nana was going to be so depressed about not going to the pool that we ultimately didn't go to the pool at all. The thing is, Nana wouldn't swim, but instead would sit there at a table all by herself, which is pathetic. So Mom would need to come along, just to keep Nana company, so the two of them would be at the pool sitting at a table there, watching us swim... and we just decided it was easier to not swim at the pool. And of course I feel terrible, because I really wanted Maddie to go have some fun at the pool.
June was pretty busy with Summer Xtreme and Forward events, but obviously we're not going anywhere on vacation. Maddie really wants to go back to Tennessee, and I'm wanting to go anywhere at this point. But Tennessee sounds good for a start. Poor Mom is enduring the worst of it, of course. She has been a caretaker all day long, her big job being that of keeping Nana busy, and answering the repeated questions and so on. Mom has gotten a lot of gardening done outside simply because she's been driven out there by Nana, who follows of course, asking what she can do and then not doing anything at all but the wandering around and muttering.
So July is here, and despite the fact that we're not going anywhere on vacation again - it's been a few years since we've done that - we're still planning some day trips and events upcoming. We were looking into baseball tickets, Medieval Times tickets, and a few other day trips. We'll get by.
We read tonight, and soon enough we might start reading books about Narnia again, as we were recently talking about some new series ideas for KidPak. Yeah, Narnia might actually happen there, which is something else to look forward to. Also, we'll probably return to our Pilgrim series, which should be cool too. Anyway, tonight we read from the second book of "The Mysterious Benedict Society," and after that we said our prayers. Tomorrow will be a better day!
