Braves Parade

The last time I went to a parade like this was in 1991.  Yeah, I'm older.  Anyway, we didn't go today in person, but we know many who did.  There was a huge parade for the returning World Series Champion Braves, and the noise and confetti and the chants were all there, as was the pride in a city that has a winning team.  There is such irony this year - the commissioner of baseball took away Atlanta's hosting of the All-Star game for political reasons, and yet he himself had somewhat of a Haman moment, as he handed the World Series trophy off to the city he thought he'd punish.  And what a narrative - instead of losing one All-Star game, the Braves went on to play something like eight home games in the playoffs, setting a record for selling more merchandise than any other team after a World Series victory.  The enthusiasm can be measured with money spent on merchandise, but also with decibels - the noise in that parade was insane, the chopping chant on and on.  It was amazing to watch live.  We're going to have a great off season looking back on this one.

Today I got some great headway on a new series of skits to go along with the Neverland Christmas series. We're going to be telling a "Christmas Carol" story with Captain Hook.  We thought this idea was terribly clever, but then happened upon a script that was already written with this general idea in it.  And while that script is decent, I didn't get much from it other than one pretty off joke that still has me laughing.  The biggest inspiration, oddly enough, came from an episode of "Jake and the Neverland Pirates," which also had the same exact idea of turning Hook into a Scrooge.  Well, anyway, the writing is ongoing, and I feel like this new script will be pretty good.

Maddie had her taekwondo tonight, although she won't be having it next week, as she has rehearsals for her musical next week at the high school.  She's very excited about this one, and we can't wait to see it.  My, is that only a week away?  Sure enough, it is.

Anyway, we watched a Christmas movie tonight, and said our prayers after reading some more.  I'm starting a new book just for me, one I've read before.  "Hogfather" is a bit of a Christmas-themed story from the Discworld, and it'll be fun diving back into that world once more.

It was a decent day today, the highlight being the parade and the ceremony at the ballpark afterwards.  We'll try to have a more productive day tomorrow!
