Here's a picture of Daddy a few years ago, having climbed Guadalupe Peak in Texas. I scanned this earlier today for use in the service tomorrow, hopefully. Don't worry about the picture itself - it's a joke, of course. The trail is right there, and the ledge isn't that big of a deal.
We're starting "Elevate" tomorrow, a series we haven't done in a while. In fact, this picture above was taken over ten years go, long before these kids in KidPak now were even born. I miss the characters above dearly, but we have a great new cast, and tomorrow is going to be special.
Today was an indoor day, and boy, was it! It was pretty chilly out there, and we thought to set out and put a significant dent in our Desantafication Process. Mid-day, Daddy and Mommy were packing up the Christmas ornaments and taking things down as we had "Wonder Woman" playing on the television.
We did some school work today, and some piano practice as well. Madison is doing much better today, with no fever at all. We didn't get around to any video games, as we were working to get the house back in order. We've got a way to go on that front, but we did well enough. Madison's vocabulary work resulted in a 100%, so she seems to have that all taken care of. The vocabulary test is next week, as is another test on Tuesday, one on WWI and the Roaring Twenties. This is one of the reasons why we chose "Wonder Woman" to watch today, as it takes place during WWI. It's a great movie, especially the scene there at No Man's Land. It really helped illustrate that for Madison.
Mommy made a wonderful soup for us, which was fast-friendly and delicious. It warmed us up too! We cleaned up ourselves this afternoon too, with showers and baths, that way we won't be rushed to do it in the morning tomorrow. It's a new series, and it's going to be a big day.
Tonight, we read from John 10, then the Fasting Devotional, and then a few more chapters from "Ahsoka." We said our prayers, and hit the beds a little earlier tonight to get rest, but also to get warmer as well. It's chilly again!
Here's our Fasting Devotional for today - the first week is over!
“God looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand,
any who seek God.” Psalm 53:2 NIV
What a view! From the top of Mount Washington, you can see six states, and on a clear day, even the ocean as well. After a bit of effort and a good climb, you can see quite a distance. It’s definitely worth all the struggle it took to get there.
As you fast, and as you pray, you’re getting to a similar place. Sure, it may seem like a big climb. But just wait until you see the view! You won’t be able to see six states, but will be able to see things a lot more differently, and probably a lot more clearly.
You see, fasting and prayer brings us to a higher elevation. That’s a place where we can see farther ahead, and farther behind too. It’s a higher altitude where God shows us more.
But we can only get there with a bit of effort, right? Just like with climbing a mountain, you just have to keep moving one step forward at a time. Don’t give up, because soon you’ll be at the top.
And when you’re there, you’ll take in that incredible view, and suddenly get the big picture. You’ll see the wonder of His creation. Problems will suddenly seem smaller when you have a God’s eye view of things. Not only that, but you can also see more clearly the paths you need to take, and where they’ll lead to as well! There is so much to be gained when you reach a higher level with our Heavenly Father!
As you fast and pray, you’re heading up to that place. So don’t give up. Don’t stop praying. Soon, you’ll be at the top, and soon you’ll be seeing things much more clearly. And yes, soon you’ll be taking in quite a view.
